The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

@speckledhen
It is SWEDISH FLOWER HEN

I get mine from breeders - both from the Sweden line and the German line. The birds I had from the German line had over-aggressive personalities.

The one pullet I processed was a Buckeye. They are usually very docile but this one would fly through the air and land on another bird and attack - kind of like a rooster. Since I'd never had a female act like that before, that was the end of her.

The girl had a screw loose, sounds like! Crazy stuff happens sometimes. I had one BR cockerel years ago, out of my hatchery stock. Though my rooster was very non-aggressive, this chick was crazy from the start. He was skittish and acted scared of everything, unlike his brothers. He would fly to my shoulder out of nowhere if he got nervous, like I was supposed to save him, but he still didn't want me to touch him. He got a little better, never attacked anyone here and I tried to give him away, but the lady insisted on paying me something for him. I made full disclosure of his flighty temperament, but he did turn very aggressive later on. They're animals so no one can truly guarantee every bird.

ETA: I remember that story! And someone alluded to that somewhere just a couple of days ago on the comment section of someone else's youtube video. Very true. But, do kids ever read that stuff now? Or are they engaged and on drugs by the age of 9 now? No childhood or fairy tales with morals of the story for them.

I didn't get that the Popeye Club...or maybe I did. I remember watching Popeye, but don't remember the club.

Don't forget MISTER MOOSE!!!!!! Remember Mike Mulligan's Steam Shovel?

I remember Mister Moose! I don't remember the other, though. Maybe if I saw it, it would trigger a memory.

The Popeye Club was apparently Atlanta based, lasted 14 years.

Husband is putting up trim on the shed. I told him those goats are just going eat that stuff. They have already been gnawing on the inside of the shed and the new 2x4's.

Looks great. But, goats crib just like horses, I guess. Anything to chew on, like a baby putting stuff in its mouth.

Goats eat wood. They are more browsers like deer, not grazers though they will graze. They will strip the bark off tree branches and eat the leaves and smaller branches. So any wood they will peel strips off to actually eat.

My donkeys will eat wood too, so all wooden fences are either gnawed on or pooped on around here, and many have both. My husband left his wooden ladder propped against the back of the shed and the donkeys ate half a rung.

I use some wooden fence panels around my turkeys to block the winter winds and the goats eat holes through them.

Goats can be a pain, so you need to appreciate their nature or they will drive you crazy, donkeys too. Oh and turkeys too. I keep a lot of troublemakers.
