The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

You may possibly have some malware - even if you have anti-virus.

Try downloading the free version of malwarebytes and run it. May possibly detect what's going on.

Or...your network connection may be running slow.

That's one of the programs we ran. Have had that for years now. No malware, no viruses found. That's why it's so frustrating, no idea why it's acting up.

Bummer. I've had my computer behave like that before and it resolved so I think it was malware in my case.

I've begun to save all files on an external drive and have a second one for backup so I'm not filling the hard drive with everything. I'm liking that system pretty well then just got "goodsync to go" to do quick backups to a second external. That goodsync is a huge time saver and I'm doing the same with my workplace files.

Most my files are graphics related so a lot of large files.

Is it making any strange noises? That's usually hard drive. Does it freeze up? Again, usually hard drive. Files disappearing? Downloads don't want to set up, or run properly?
The aforementioned tend to be signs of hard drive problems. You don't have to have all of them to recognize the hard drive is going bad.

Does it recognize thumb drives when you put them in? cds/dvds? Those would be symptoms of the motherboard going bad.

Go to add/remove programs, and make sure all the programs are things you installed. Any unfamiliar programs, Google them to make sure of what they are. Anything that shouldn't be there, uninstall.

There is a program called Ccleaner by Piriform. https://www.piriform.com/ Get the FREE version. When you open it, on the left will be an icon of a broom. Click, and run the program. There will be a warning....yes, let it delete all of it. When that gets done, under the broom icon, there is an icon with 4 squares, like the Windows logo, click it, then click Scan For Issues. Click for it to fix selected issues, and no you don't want to back it up.

The media card reader is acting up, says there is a problem, lets me scan it, then says it can't fix it. But, it loads stuff just fine. I do have an external backup drive, though. It just gets bogged down, like when trying to type a post here, or when going to my picture files to get one to post. It will say "Working on it..." and be really slow, even make me have to refresh the folder to make them show up so I can choose one.
Oh, I use CCleaner about every other day. So, I clean and re-clean and defrag and run AVG tune-up and still, it has issues.
