The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Good, Cheryl. Are their prices on that stuff good?

Maretta is raising the chicks as she always does, perfectly. I took them a tray of scrambled eggs with a tiny bit of plain yogurt mixed in this morning and found one in the dustbathing pan I put in for them (the dirt outside today is frozen or I'd add more for them). I told DH they could get in there and he didn't believe me, LOL.

Now, on one close up picture you can see why I say that sexing the Stukel BRs is not as cut and dried as it should be. That chick has a male head spot and female legs, but I'm going on pullet since it's less likely for a male to have legs that dark than for a pullet to have a head spot that is larger and more around the back of the head than it should be.

Usually their stuff is good, and the prices on some of it are fantastic. I looked on Amazon, Overstock, Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Bed Bath n Beyond, and several other websites pricing king size comforter sets. I couldn't touch them for the price I got them at on Zulily.com. As I said, I've never had trouble before, and they seemed eager to rectify the problem.

Good to know!

I am so frustrated with Joann fabrics. I found some quilt back material 108" wide for half their normal prices plus $3 shipping for ALL, so I put some in my cart and proceeded to check out. Then, a first, it said that the credit card info could not be verified. Say what? Same card, only card we have, have used it at Joann online more than once, etc. So, I wait 30 min until customer service opens, thinking I'll lose the items in that time (3 day sale started today). Hoping it's not something with the actual card, which has almost no balance on it and a relatively high limit, so we call the company, who says nothing is wrong with our card, must be the retailer.

I call Joann. Lady says the only reason it would not take is that the address and credit card number must not match. I tell her I've been here almost 16 years and had only this credit card, used it at their online store multiple times. So, I have to give her each item number from the beginning, she runs it through, says it went through, that I'll get an email confirming the order within a few minutes. Nope. Never showed up. We go buy groceries and chicken supplies, come back, still no email. I call Joann. She gives me an order #. Happy, I go put in the order # to track my order and says no such order #. GRRRRRRRR!!!!

Their website is being really glitchy today, was pretty much down for a bit anyway after my order was done over the phone. I think it was crashed by their sale.

How frustrating :barnie

Good news here is that my little hen is mostly feathered in, and back in with the group. Just in time for another deep cold snap. Got to run out and check on her tonight and make sure she's snuggled in with the big girls.

Happy she's doing better. Another Brahma hen came back into lay so three of the six are producing.

I had to pull Atlas off a hen today. I was in the ancient hens' pen and saw him standing on top of little Gloria Jean....on her side! She was laying on her side, wing under her in a weird position with him trying to breed her. I ran over and removed his Casanova self off of her and I had to pull her upright. She just lay there. I thought maybe she'd had some kind of episode, fell over and he took it as an invitation. Other than a mussed wing, she seems okay, was on the roost when I locked up. But, I've never seen him stand on a hen in that position. Bad Atlas! It's possible she had some sort of mini-stroke like Meg had a few times prior to her death and was flat out on the ground for a few seconds.

That's good. It's not if they make a mistake, it's how they handle it when they do. I've had Thousands of Bolts do really great by me when they sent me entirely the wrong fabric order. But, Joann is less easy to deal with sometimes. If they mess this one up, they've lost me as an online customer. I still can't get that order # to go through. Says it doesn't match my zip code or the number is incorrect or some such nonsense. It didn't ask for my zipcode, only the order number and my email. Geez. I'll wait to see if I get a ship notification in a couple of days and if not, I'll be calling them yet again.

It's probably their website that's glitchy. Seems like several are glitchy right now. AOL was down yesterday in quite a few areas throughout the country. Dh did our taxes, and paid for the Turbo Tax thingy. Well, he got a notice back that he had done it wrong. He went back in, and couldn't get the software to work correctly. It wouldn't add in the line for the hurricane damage into the other line. He called support, and they couldn't get it working either, so they refunded his money, had him print the forms, and do it manually, then send them via snail mail. You should have heard him squawking. Something about not being able to file on time, get his money quickly, etc. Really? For over 25 years of my life, there was no such thing as filing online. They delivered the forms in huge boxes at the post office. You'd go there, pick up your forms, fill them out, put a stamp on them, and mail them in. Suddenly his world is upside down because he can't file his taxes online? I just couldn't muster any sympathy for his situation.
