The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

He's gorgeous, but he looks nothing like your current boys to me. He looks foreign. Weird, I got to know your boys through their photos so it's strange to see a different rooster.

That is crazy the ladies have such similar names. I would be mixed up too.

He's certainly not an Atlas son, nothing like Apollo. At least, if she decided to put Liz and Tess with him, she wouldn't get a dwarf, though she could create carriers, if either hen is one. I just don't know if either is. She lives on 400 acres. I wish!

I'm down to 31 hens and 5 roosters, but only 3 LF roosters. Of those 31 hens, only 13 are 3 yrs old or younger.
Rebecca was describing to me the boy she got from me and he acts just like Hector. She had to teach him not to bite, too, and he has that boundless energy that Hector still does. Yup, like father, like son.

Actually, this helps my sweet, old June. She's too old to have to work so hard to keep order. June was having to work way too hard as head hen in that group. And Georgie, who is 2nd in command, is very bloated up again so she has not been feeling as spry as normal herself. Neither should have to work so hard. Now, they as well as Zara and Athena can rest a little from the chaos caused by Liz and Tess.

Oh, adding that when Maretta comes back to her group, having those two hens gone will help her reintegration process. I'm not sure if they were in there when she left just over 8 weeks ago or not.

Ah, forgot to tell you about some funny chicken drama this a.m. Our cat was sitting by a pile of plastic tarp out near the garden, obviously listening. I went over there and lifted up a corner and Finn shot underneath and came out with a little white footed mouse. He took it over into the space between the chicken pen and the garden and put it down. The little mouse squeaked and batted at Finn with her little white paws and then made a break for it.....right into the chicken pen....right into a group of Brahmas. Critical error. It was on, like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park after prey!
Bailey came out with the mouse in her beak and ran off with it....right into the barn. I'm saying in my head, "No, no, no ,no" and run in after her, hoping she won't let it go in there, but I need not have worried. She was beating it senseless against the barn aisle floor. It was dead. I shooed her out of the barn and she ran off with her prize, followed by her jealous sisters. I never found one single piece of that mouse, but I did later lift up the tarp and four or five of her offspring shot out in all directions.

I've never seen them kill a mouse, I've just seen the after Chase of chickens fighting over one. That's cool.

Dumb dumb here fell down in the basement about an hour ago. Took me a while to figure out how to get back up. I fell on my husband's poopy boots

I felt like I was in one of the life alert commercials, except dogs were trying to help. I luckily fell on my bad knee and didn't fall on my fancy new knee that was quite expensive. I'm gonna be sore for a while.

@oldhenlikesdogs
Bummer! Glad you're okay but it hurts just to think about it!

LISA! You better be careful, my friend. But, of course, I am talking to myself, too. You and I are quite the pair. Falling in poop, well, that's our life.

The poopy boot were a nice cushion, so for once falling into it was a good thing.

You be careful too. We are past the point where falling down is fun.

Yes, ma'am. And with osteopenia, I have a tendency to break bones, too.

Rebecca posted on my ad just a bit ago:

Thanks so much for the ladies. I have them home now. They are prettier in person than the pictures. I've already been out with treats.

They'll be cared for nicely, I'm sure.
