Today would be my late Aunt Ethel's birthday. It's also the 7th hatch-day of Wynette, Maretta, Gloria Jean and my remaining original D'Anvers-Aubrey, Aimee and Penny.
Aubrey was not looking great today. He's officially so far the oldest rooster that's been here, outliving Isaac's age. He's been breathing so hard, turning darkish-purple, etc. Today, he was sitting in the shavings just shaking. I could see it in his down-turned tail feathers. He is not of any real use here because the hens don't lay. Aimee quit again after a decent run (for a D'Anver) and no others are, either.

Sorry to hear that. It's hard to watch them struggle, especially the little ones, I have a soft spot in my heart for the bantams.

He's really a gorgeous little rooster, even if he's pretty dumb. He did learn his name, at least! I don't want him to be hurting, but if I pick him up to check him out (well, catch him in mid-air when he bounces off the walls trying to get away), he acts like he'll die in my arms, so I'm going to let him be. I'll not be surprised if he just drops off the roost in the night one day soon.

He's gorgeous. I have one remaining porcelain d'uccle rooster. He's lost both his brothers last fall and he's getting slower himself. Same pretty colors as Aubrey. Poor little guy. I would let him be too for now.

There are times to step in, and times to let nature do it's thing. Some birds we let them finish their life's story on their own terms, others we help out, it is definitely an individual thing based on many factors.

Yes. He has had a good life, and would likely be lost if moved away from his group.
