The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Miss Lizzie does not have much comb yet, although her wattles are quite developed. And what a nice looking group of birds!
You must mean Tessa. Lizzie has a pretty big comb. It's not perfectly straight, either. Tessa's is still quite small, but it seems to be very straight and should end up being a nice 5 pointer. Atlas sure likes to dance for her.

I may have gotten an egg from Lizzie today, not sure. I know I got one from Dottie because I saw her on the nest, but when I went to gather it up, there were two. One is pointy, not super small but I don't recognize it. Lizzie is 38 weeks old so about dang time. Tessa was even checking out the nests today. She is 22 weeks on Saturday. These are the first eggs from this group in literally a couple of months and I can't eat them since they were wormed less than two weeks ago. If a D'Anver hen goes broody, I can hatch them, though!

This is Druscilla. She is about 5 yrs old, Dottie's daughter with the Stukel male. Her face has always looked old to me, even when she was younger.

You can see Lizzie below right and tell how she compares size-wise to the older hens.

And photobomb by Atlas
Yeah, he did. I am mad at him because that fight that hurt and eventually killed Deacon detached the back of Atlas's comb and it won't stand completely straight anymore. It leans at the back. He's also red GA clay colored in his hackles from his luxurious dustbaths so I haven't taken as many pictures of the big guy lately. At least his comb isn't as bad as my old blue Orp hen, Dusty's, which falls over her left eye like a French beret. Ladyhawk always says "Oui, Oui, Dusteee!" when she talks to her now. And it literally hangs so bad that it throws dirt and stuff in her left eye all the time so I have to keep cleaning it out. She should have completed her dubbing instead of doing it half-baked. Atlas thankfully did not go that far.

Since I haven't experienced that type of injury with our roosters yet, I was wondering is it possible for the comb to be reattached right after the injury takes place?

I haven't found it to be easy to do. Tried with Dusty but the weight of it is just too much for it to work to reattach. It won't bother him much, just will be a cosmetic issue, though if he is in an actual fight with another rooster, it will be easier for it to be pulled off more.

My son in Korea sent us a gift today from Amazon for our 40th anniversary tomorrow, a 40 pack sampler of various coffees.

We cracked up when we opened it. What he didn't know was that we got a new coffee maker a couple weeks ago, one that takes both a carafe and K-cups. Last month, he sent me an Amazon gift card for my birthday. For part of that, this was what I bought, a 40 cup sampler of K-cups!

If you like a lighter roast coffee, Target has a great coffee called Candycane but they only have it at Christmas. It isn't an overwhelming mint taste but it is as if you took one of those Bob's Sugar Candy Canes and stirred your coffee with it. It is so popular here that it is almost always sold out when I go to Target. Whenever I manage to snag a few boxes the cashiers always comment that they sell out very quickly.
