The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

It is a wonderful thing. I remember hatching chicks in 1st grade. We were never allowed to hold them, though. In later years, all the kindergarten classes hatched chicks and kept them in kiddie pools. I had NEVER held a chick until I got my first chicks in August 2013! I had a rooster named Leonard at the horse farm that was "mine". Best guess is that he was a game breed of some sort. I would carry him around with me after I was done messing with my horse. But I never held a chick. Oh how things have changed!

Was trying out the camera today that DH bought at the thrift store for $4.75. It has some real issues, keeping turning itself off, but it does fair video and decent photos, too. Just some random shots with it.

Aw, the Xander-man, ain't he precious?

Spike, who is having his butt kicked by his sire, Aubrey, daily now.

Do you see the Atlas photobomb?

Xander's regal pose.

Wynette and babies got scrambled eggs mixed with plain yogurt and dove right in.

My everyone looks content! Except for Wynette of course, she has that implacable killer mother hen stare.
Oh, she's very content. She did screech when I took Atlas back there again and held him up so he could see his kiddies. He was fascinated, held very still in my arms for ages. Once Wynette realized he was staying outside the pen, she went back to business as usual.

Oh those pens and birds are BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE THOSE CUTE LITTLE CHICKS!! I have am finishing my first hatch of the year. Two are pipped and 6 are internally pipped!

Beautiful pictures. It looks like everyone is settling in nicely.

On the camera, not sure what type of battery it takes, but if you were to find one cheap, that may solve your problems. I can't tell you how many electronics I have had problems with that cleared after switching the batteries out. I always buy things (flashlights, weather radios) that have the option for single use batteries as well as the rechargeable ones.

Thank you! Good luck on your hatch.

DH bought a brand new battery pack for it so it has full power. Later today, I could not get it to stay on to take a picture of Finn. It just kept shutting off.

While I was outside wrangling a broody out of her nesting box (she is really giving me a good lesson in "Chickenzilla") I realized that I hadn't checked in on Wynette and her babies. I am so happy that she and the babies are doing so well. The videos and pics are terrific and I especially liked the Atlas photobomb.
