Thanks! I'm relieved about June. After she passed that flattened, folded shell then had a good night's sleep, she seemed back to normal.

The chicks are starting to spar. Love to watch that. Athena is usually right in the fray, too.


ETA: I have my eye on the largest cockerel with Wynette, but the little guy Ida is raising is showing really nice barring in his little wings already. I know for sure he is Ida's. I suspect the big one also belongs to Ida.

I am so glad that I finally got caught up on the baby pics. Man, those are some good looking chicks! Atlas is going to have keep siring chicks for at least another 5 years to give us time to get up there. I am kind of kicking myself for not taking some of your hatching eggs because when I got home I had a broody waiting on me and she is such a sweetie she would probably make a great momma.

And that pic of Wynette hugging you was the best. She is a whole lotta chicken. Lol!

Notice that the one I think is a pullet has almost imperceptible barring so far. The one with actual barring and the male head spot has dark leg fronts.








Wynette and crew. I put a heat lamp over that little baby roost because they are too big to get under mama in this chilly round of weather we're having. Now, they don't have to make Wynette crazy (too much).

D'Anvers, doing everything with the nests except laying in them. :/

Maretta, super sweet EE hen-she is 1/2 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and 1/2 EE and lays gorgeous deep blue eggs. She is 5 years old today, along with Gloria Jean, Ida, Wynette and four of my original D'Anvers. Maretta is a smaller hen than June.

Xander, with his three hens, plus my late Isaac and Deacon's six. Trying to get them to be one group eventually, maybe when old Dusty passes on. She's pretty cantankerous. Even Georgie and June give her a wide berth.










And the pasture, just because I like it.

We r still patiently waiting. Our Angus is getting closer though. My grandpa has had 8 calves so far and I was hoping that would convince ours but its not

! I am behind on calf pics and will try get some tonight. Our Angus is a day or two out. Hopefully with snow moving in and the barometer dropping that will kick em into gear!

Thanks. Now, if we could only get to the rest of the barn construction, but husband's back is really hurting the last few days. And we are expecting a frost Saturday night. After that, more of the garden goes in, if he's in shape to do much of it. I may just have to do it myself.
This is the bean year. Roma II/Romano and Greasy Back Short Cut heirloom we got from one of Tom's farmer friends just over the line into NC. Plus yellow and butternut squash, cantaloupe and honeydew, Ruby Orr tomatoes (from seed from one humongous tomato same farmer friend gave us last year), kale and I forget what else is here. Brussels sprouts and cauliflower are already planted.
Took this two days ago, now, it's a jungle.
