Cyn, I don't consider it to be evil. Children need to be introduced to a large variety of things in their lives. Having a relative that raises chickens, grows a garden, and lives differently than they do, is good for them.
I had a couple uncles that raised hogs, and had cows. When we would visit them, my cousins would pen up the sow, and we would have a ball catching, holding, petting, and talking to the piglets. My aunts went out early every morning to milk the cows. They're the ones that taught me to milk a cow, and about churning butter. I knew I couldn't have a pig, or cow, but it sure made visiting them fun, to learn, and experience new things.
What a wonderful end to your walkway, reminds me of the yellow brick road. Love it.
Those are some deep dust bathing craters, wow. Your chicks look happy running around. I recently move a batch of 4 week olds out to my shed. They haven't ventured outside yet, they are tiny compared to the adults.
