The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Sounds like a wise precaution.
Tom came home and used a long piece of aluminum piping to push it off the header. She was not wanting to go yet, but she finally fell. That dang thing was 5 ft long! She zipped off toward the backyard area away from the barn/coops.

I have an extreme fear of snakes, I scream obscenities, and often end up sobbing hysterically when I see one. I continue to be amazed by people taking photos of them. I know they are a part of nature, but from my side I cannot help my reaction, I hate snakes. Once I see one, usually a garter snake, every stick I see on the lawn is a potential snake to me and it's a stressful few days before I can calm down. It's a horrible fear that doesn't answer to common sense.

I've seen people who are that afraid of chickens, believe it or not. I don't love snakes, but I just don't kill rat snakes. They leave an odd smell on your hands when you handle them, very musky, blech.

That is because like all phobias it is not logical - so don't expect to be able to think your way out of it. There are programs to help people overcome phobias, and some are quite good. Personally I have a strong dislike of heights, and even when standing on a chair start to feel dizzy. You should see me on a roof - although that doesn't happen very often

I am not afraid of small spaces, but I could never, ever be a spelunker! Seeing folks crawling through tiny spaces in caves creeps me out badly! I always think of what it would be like if it fell in and crushed me. So, not going to squeeze through small cracks and crevices in caves, nope, not me. I don't really get dizzy looking down, so not really afraid of heights, per se, but I do get woozy looking up when I'm up high on a ledge or something. It's one of the reasons that I hate ferris wheels and other carnival rides. Not getting me on one ever again. But, nothing like that here so I'm safe!

No Ferris wheels here either, though I like being on a roof looking around as long as it's not too high. We used to make elaborate hay bale caves and houses when kids. One collapsed on me and never again did I go in one, I guess I'm full of fears.

My sister and I used to scream bloody murder when we saw a snake and make my father kill it. He loved all living things and tried his best to get us over our fears. He would hold the snake and have us "pat" it. I could manage that when all I could see was about three inches of the middle of it! Then he would take it across the road and let it go. We always said the snake probably beat him back home! :p

Thoroughly cleaned my coop today, and all the feeders, etc. Tomorrow, I will move everything out, spray, dust the chickens, then put everything back in. I need to make new feeders too. The buckets on the ones I have, are about 3 years old now, and the plastic is brittle.

The littles settled into their new cage fairly quick. I had noticed one that seemed much more curious about what was going on than the others. Dh commented this morning that he noticed one that was more curious than the others, so it wasn't just me thinking that.

Could be a little rooster, some are very nosey.

You never know with the personalities sometimes. Seems like the sweetest ones are the males, always interested in what you're doing, following you around.

Both hubs and myself have a dentist appt today about an hour and a half away. He hasn't been in years and the deaths in the family spaced out and the resulting stuff that goes with that, plus the distance, keeps me from going every year for a cleaning, but I do good with mine. That's the closest dentist my insurance plan has in the system. He's a good one, been there before, but I don't like that side of town. My in-laws mostly live on that side, never did like the Marietta-Woodstock-Canton areas, super crowded. But the insurance gives a lot of bang for the buck, better than almost any so seems prudent to keep it going. I think that dental should be just another medical specialist in with our regular insurance since they always harp on how your teeth affect your health so much.
