If it's male, then someone will get a very sweet young rooster. This one is much calmer and doesn't struggle when you pick it up like the more hector-like boys. See, I used my new term, LOL. I've never had to do aversion therapy to stop the nipping habit they can get into when you reach for them at this age. This chick just never has done that. I'll keep it around awhile so MaryJo is not left alone when someone buys male #2. Maybe one day the comb will pop up and/or it will crow. I hope not! I hope it's just a very big, gorgeously barred girl!

I hope it's a girl, not for the usual reasons, but because I really like Drea/Drew and hope I can keep it around. If it's an Atlas son, I just can't do that, no girls for him. If it's a girl, Hector will be glad to have her and he needs two or three more in his harem, especially with Rowena's fate up in the air.

I moved the three kids to the little coop so we could redo the roost in the barn pen, which was formerly Xander's pen.
I see that Drea/Drew is fully as large, if not larger, than the cockerel who is left, though his/her body is not as round, more elongated (slightly). Drea/Drew's tail set seems like it may end up a tad higher than optimal, but since there is really no tail yet to speak of, that is too early to call. Since they are going on 11 weeks old, it won't be too much longer before I could move MaryJo in with one of the old lady groups and then, if that kid is a male, it can find a new home.

Yay, I got a wonderful gift in the mail today from a very kind and generous lady.

Here's the ones I received today. They are of exceptional quality. I know because I absolutely stink at sewing, and often it degrades down into lots of swearing when I need to sew something up.

Hey there, Isaiah! Miss you around the thread. Ladyhawk had a partridge Silkie named Jet. She was a fierce mama, tried to take on a raccoon when it was prying open a pop door. She really loved that hen.


ETA: Lizzie has not been eating, or at least, I have seen no evidence that she was eating from the bowl in front of her for about 2-3 days. Her comb was shriveling and changing color so we made a slurry of grits, eggs and yogurt with water and syringed a 12 cc syringe into her beak a little at a time. Then, when we put her back, we put some chick starter in a small tray and poured that mixture over it, mixed it, then sprinkled chopped up spinach from the garden over it. She ate quite a few bites of that.

She is on Day 16 tomorrow with her three eggs, but I don't want her to kill herself. Her poop is completely water, which alerted me to her lack of food consumption. No need to lose a 2 yr old hen over chicks I don't even need, but will try to continue giving her special food every day until they hatch. If she doesn't mother them, Bonnie is still trying to be broody and I bet she will accept chicks.

Went for chemo today, but didn't get it. We stopped it. It's done as much as it's going to do. I start on an aromatase inhibitor tomorrow.

The PT scan is not very good, but not very bad. I have 2 teensy spots on my spine. They did not light up, so they're not showing as cancer at this time, but due to the nature of my cancer, they probably are cancer. We have to keep an eye on them to see what develops
