The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

You know that my background is in science, and worked in research labs for years. One of the most important aspects of research is relying on rigorously evaluated data. That means evaluating it without preconvictions. Too much of what is said about coconut oil is the kind of hyperpositive speculation that I find suspicious. I have seen too many diet fads come and go to not be concerned about the claims of a new one.

Coconut oil is 100%
Did you mean to finish that last sentence, Mary? I am still leery of some of the claims, of course, after years of nutritionists saying it was not a good fat to include in the diet. It reminded me of the claims of DE curing everything short of cancer (and maybe some even claimed that). I was going to try it for the birds and for my teeth, but I have no plans to consume it. I can't afford a hyper-caloric fat in my diet at the moment. I'm suspicious of everything, to be honest. I think overuse of anything is not a good thing. But, I will keep an open mind to a degree about things because I'm not sure where all the information is coming from. Big Pharma has been responsible for a lot of misinformation, I believe.

ETA: Okay, you fixed it. Thanks for the article, I will read it. And I have a hector problem. Check out his thread.

One thing I cannot fathom is putting coconut oil (or butter) in my coffee. BLECH! I've seen it called "bulletproof coffee", but no way I'd do that. That is completely disgusting! plus adds a ton of calories to my already light with half-and-half brew.

I guess it's like anything else. Using it in excess is...well....using it in excess.

I know they've used it as skin care for years for it's anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. I've seen people use it topically on frostbite with excellent results.

But... in excess anything can become contraindicated.

I think topically, it's wonderful. I love the way it feels adding it to my body cream. I was hoping it would halp the crop issue girls, too, plus, they need some calories anyway.

Not sure what happened to my camera, fuzzy picture, and though I still have two rounds to do on the newest mandala to match the size of the first one, here they are side by side to compare colors.

I prefer the one on the left. Could be a psychological test asking which is preferred maybe. They both look great. You are amazingly quick at crocheting.

And I like the one on the right (a little bit more)so there you go!

LOL, I bet I could make one with my own color scheme that would be better than these, but I think I'm ready for something different after this last one is finished.

We worked on this today. Have to wrap in wire, build two doors, sand and maybe oil the wood and then, Snow and Amanda will have their own side-by-side condos. Each cage is 30" wide and about 20" deep and tall enough in case a rooster has to be in one someday for whatever reason. The plastic wire it's wrapped in is to keep Tessa and Lizzie from jumping up and then, trying to get down. The top is an old divider gate we had, which just fit end to end and only hangs over a tiny bit in front. All this is recycled wood from the L-shaped building we tore down when we had the big barn constructed.
Being within another pen and high off the ground, it does not interfere with either the condo-dwellers or the "grounders"
