The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Yes it is expensive. I don’t think I will feed. It much any more because I. Only get 5.00 a dozen for my eggs. I don’t think it offset the cost.
If you are suggesting starving it to death, that's not right. Please cull it quickly, and as humanely as possible. I know it's not pleasant, but it is part of owning chickens, like it or not.

I just went to some gardening seminars and one of the guys was selling his eggs for $8/dz. He sold everything he had. Truly free-ranged, organic feed, organic grains for supplement, (no soy or corn), sea minerals for feed. I've seen eggs of lesser quality in the health food type stores for $5.50 and up/dz.

I sell mine at $3.50, organic fed, free-range in summer but I don't usually have enough to sell. Maybe after adding to flock this summer. I think I could get more per dz. but feel guilty asking!

Well, I'm eating pricey eggs. We're gourmet homesteaders, LOL.

Rowena is not protesting being in the hospital cage. They tend to stay strong, not showing signs of weakness, when in the flock, but when we allow an ailing bird to rest, it's like they can finally breathe and really crash. She crashed. She seems at ease in the cage. Hector went out for a few minutes (windy and cold, and he hates wind). When he came back inside and Thea and Jill were eating, he went back to look for Ro. He knows he has three hens. If he wouldn't struggle so much when we pick him up, I'd give him a boost to show him where she is, though he can probably see her up there.
