The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I would take this place. That bedroom is huge, and a walk in closet? I can walk in mine, but barely. :thumbsup

You wouldn't think it, but I have a huge master bedroom closet here for this size house, one thing that sold me on it in the first place. The bedroom is now being used as my quilt room and the small bedroom is where we sleep. It has one long clothes bar on the left and a double rack down half the right side, then a higher bar on the rest of the right side, plus shoe racks along both sides at the bottom that the original owner built. He was a woodworker and did a lot of stuff himself here. There are also shelves that go all around the top of the closet and you can see some in the photos.

Hard to see, but I think you get the idea that we have a great closet in the big bedroom, which is about 12x15. I moved my bins of yarn into the end to save floor space in the room and I want to get space on the shelves to put three of my quilts up there and get them off the bathroom linen shelves. Still need to get rid of stuff in that closet, but it's better than it was, trust me. I have clothes in there I'll never wear again from when I worked real estate and was 30 lb heavier and need to donate to the Humane Society Thrift Store as well as some from the 90's that are too small for my more muscular arms since I became a homesteader, LOL.

Your house hunter adventure is fun. I don’t know a thing about the south. I have only lived in calif as an adult.
We have so much to do here.. we bought it for the acre of lawn but the house is basically a tear down. At 61 I don’t know how much remodeling I want to do. Would be good to get a solar carport build though. Our electric bill is astronomical.

You and I are the same age. I bet your property taxes are no picnic, either, Julie.

What I may have to do, and what I'm about to do, is acquiesce completely on the moving bit. He moved 13 times in 12 years because of his father's job as a child. He wants to feel like he's home and he doesn't think he has a lot of years left. He may have 30 more years or 30 more minutes, nobody ever really knows. I do understand and all I wanted to do was help him with an easier place. If he'd rather stay and just add things to make it easier, then so be it. But, if at some point in time, I'm left to my own devices, I'll most likely be out of here. I have no confidence that I can keep this place up. Even with his issues, he can outwork me most any day. He just powers through the pain.

Your closet is about the size of my bedroom which is 14x14

You made me curious. I measured the closet. It's 10'6" x 6'7". Not too shabby for a small cottage. The closet in the other room is about what you'd expect for a tiny room less than 10' square, though. I put my cabinet in there that I store my finished for-sale quilted and crocheted items in to get it out of the way.

I disassembled, squared up, then reassembled these blocks into a new piece. It's still a Blooper Quilt, a tad wonky in places due to stretching and un-sewing and re-sewing, but with the addition of a border, it will be ready to quilt and live on as a finished piece. Better than being stuck in a lonely dark container as a complete failure. The blocks go from light to darker as you go down and to the right corner area in a progression.

I had my measurements wrong, my bedroom room is 10x12, 14x14 would be nice. That's the size of my kitchen dining room combo.

Love the quilt. :) that pattern is so cool as well as your color choices.

Hi, we are lucky in calif to have Proposition 13. It limits the assessed value of property to the purchase price plus two percent per year, and cut the tax rate on property to one percent of the assessed value. And it made it harder for politicians to raise other taxes, requiring a two-thirds vote instead of a simple majority.

Protect Proposition 13. It has been protecting California taxpayers since 1978.

Of course living in this nanny state is no picnic. We live in an area with our own well and septic. No rules per se. No visits from animal control. Calif hasn’t had the money to enforce the three Dog rule.

That is very cool! It really catches the eye.

Thanks! I like things that have dimension to them.

Thanks, Lisa.

Well, that's good, at least. My good friend, Ellie, lives just south of Redding. She is quite the homesteader. I know her taxes are extremely high, much worse than mine. She has 7 acres, if I recall, grows a huge garden, has chickens (many descended from Suede), cans her own food, has three giant water storage tanks and irrigation all over her place. That's like a completely different country than south CA, I take it.
