The Fathers Day Hatch-A-Long!!! The Last Day To Set eggs Is June 3rd!!!!

I have a pip! One out of the 4 showgirls..whew, may get at least one! I only had three Welsummers hatch. These showgirls are due tomorrow, but maybe they will all come by tonight. Or not.

80% is necessary for turkeys but not chickens. YOu should b ok with 55-60% RH.

80 may actually be misquoted and refer to 80 degrees WET BULB.

I go into my hatcher to refill or what ever needs doing if no external pips. I try to get in and out quickly if I do have external pips. I find I have chicks get stuck if they take too long to zip. Then I assist after 16 hours if I'm impatient, and 24 hours sometimes. To assist and remove them too soon could mean death, so patience is key here. THe chick needs to finish absorbing the blood in the network of veins thru out the inner membrane.

How is the humidity this monring?

80% is the correct humidity for turkeys at hatch (not a wet bulb reading).. however I can get them to hatch just fine at anything about 70% and up... just depends on the thickness of the shells

for chickens.. I let the hatching eggs raise the humidity up naturally.. I'm finding that I don't need to add any water in the Reptipro at hatch for them

I'm on day 14, we just candled, and 8 out of 8 eggs are alive. We started with 14, 4 got smashed, and 2 died, so I think we're doing really well here!

That bring the egg total to 383 I think, lol my next hach day is Wed.

Everything is already spoken for most yay friend is taking to grow out for projects we are doing and a few are sold. I'm keeping the ilkies to grow out and the sex links.

I still have NOTHING...OMG, these eggs are killing me. I have been super busy today, we started building a pole barn this morning, so at least I was out of the house and not just sitting there willing something to happen, that still has not!

I am sure we will end up with something out of these six, but for real chicks...talk about taking their sweet sweet time!
