THE FIRST EGG MY CHICKENS LAID

Well, waiting now for egg 2 or someone new to start laying. The first egg find was so eggciting! But I need more! Lol

Literally just a minute ago I got this second little bitty egg from our Ameraucana, Mary. She was still in the nesting box and had just layed it when I went to check. No others have had their first yet.

Are chickens generally cuddlier when they start to lay? That seems to be the case. I had to start wearing closed toed shoes out there because SuperChicken (with Superman bling charm) pecks my toes if I'm petting someone else. Many of them also run up and squat.

Only one of mine is actually laying so far but I have had them run up to me more when I come outside than they ever have before. And Mary didn't flinch today when I petted her back after taking her egg.

I try to let them out to free range a bit each day. This evening they were so happy and playful. It did me some good to watch them.

They must be because my Andalusian hen that runs the yard all day wants me close by when she lays egg. It is so neat.

Yeah...the color is much better in person. The first one is tiny and perfectly teal green. The second is much more blue. The first is probably bantam egg size. Today's egg is medium...maybe. Still room for growth.
