The Front Porch Swing

OK what of the 800 types of front line? I think I'm going to do that.

Have you treated juvies and bantams or just lf?

I just have bird mites so not dangerous but annoying as heck. One silkie roo had them on his underside and I had to bath him in vinegar and pluck a whole bunch of his feathers. He still is annoyed at me.

It is supposed to be a scorcher today. I planted a whole bunch of sprouted grass today in lawn bare patches. Now to make sure the chickens don't just dig it back up.

How is everyone today?

I will be picking up Frontline today to treat everyone. Maggie needs it too. I put one drop on each bird last fall and the mites were gone immediately. I also lost NO birds from it. I used Ivomec on some of the birds and lost several from that. I tried DE and dusting everything several times before that, and the mites never went away. I was pretty impressed with the results from the Frontline.

Good morning everyone! :frow

Quote: I had Frontline for large breed dogs that I used. Maggie is a Golden Retriever. I used it on every one of my birds, some were as young as 2-3 weeks. I just had to be really careful with the babies so I only got a drop on them, but some of the older birds got more accidentally. It didn't seem to hurt any of them. I did it right on the skin where the wing joins the body. If they were big birds I did a drop on each side of their body, but smaller birds just got one drop.

I can get Frontline on Ebay cheaper than locally, but I want to get it on as soon as possible, so I will just get it in town. TSC has it, as well as my local feed store.

What does the Frontline do to their eggs? I sell my eggs and can't risk a problem. Does it pass through to the egg? Is there a withdrawal time for it?
Let me see if I can find the link there was a thread on BYC about it, the answer is, it "probably" gets in eggs but not in any noticeable amounts( they get detailed about if things stored in fat get into the egg or not too) , but it has not been studied as its an off label use. I was looking for tylan for the same thing and also could not find anything since its an off label use there too.

The more technical stuff starts on page 4. There is a guy who did a study who chats on that thread you could PM.

Eggs hatch fine however.

Jim started the June egg swap, but its moved to the new section so harder to find. Look in swaps if you are interested, its fun!

Thanks for the info. I'll go hunt it down.

I can't do the swaps with no paypal. I only have mature hatchery birds.
