The Front Porch Swing

Sounds wonderful! Did he have experience with mortar before he did it? Neither of us has ever done mortar......ceramic tile would be the closest thing to it.

He took a continuing ed class, but that was his first attempt at applying it. It looks just as good now as when he finished it. I'll try to remember to get pics tomorrow, weather permitting.

They are mortared together. No bracing. It's been up....hmmmmm......eight years? Nine? We bought this place ten years ago, and I think it went in the following summer. We had a load of soil delivered, and there were no fences up yet so they could dump right in it. Then we added manure and worked it in.

I would love to see pics too! It would be awesome to have something we doing have to rebuild every couple of years. My beds were built up a few feet also - it sure makes taking care of them easier on the back!

Actually, I have the weeding almost completely finished, and the planting is all done finally. I am cheating and putting Preen down, because otherwise it WILL get away from me!

Preen doesn't take care of everything, but it definitely helps a lot. Just acquired another cat and 7 more kittens tonight!

A deaf lady stopped and asked if we knew anyone who would take them because her neighbors children were brats and already killed one kitten. They were just born last Saturday. She had a tablet she wrote everything on because I don't know sign language at all. She was thrilled when I told her we would take them and gave me a hug and told me she had been praying for someone to take them. She was sad to part with "Darla" the mother cat and I told her she could come get her when the kittens are older. She is a little shy, but a sweet cat. She is a black calico. The kittens are all colors! One is black/white, two are pure white, two are torties like the mother, and the other two look almost Siamese! I want to keep those two for sure! They are adorable!

Awwwwww pictures!!!!!! Please :p

Heather- I agree we need pictures of the kitties! I cant have kitties any more so I need to live vicariously through you!

Husband is getting better and so far I haven't gotten whatever it was. So I am going out this morning to weedwack before it warms up out there...desperately needs it. just hope the trimmer-line-gods are kind. I actually don't mind weedwacking when the darn thing works, but when it doesn't feed properly it is a royal PITA.

I love raised beds...absolutely love them. I have a bad back and they make things do-able for me. I love the idea of the concrete block ones...wider to sit on than a 2x. I wish we'd had the money to make ours out of 4x's
deer came by and ate all my newly sprouted bean plants...nipped their little heads off.

Welcome to the porch!

Good to have you drop by!

I had the camera out this morning so took a couple of pictures of the outside of our porch. It is not a front porch, but a back porch. It is on the north east corner of our house, is screened in and has a glider, two chairs and an ottoman for lounging and bird watching. The lattice on the east side is to "block the view" from our neighbor's house into the porch. We can see out fine but it provides some privacy since the front of their house is north of the porch (we were here six years before they bought the property next door and built the house a year later). We planted trees to provide a "green screen" and they are now filling in the space nicely.

Things we see from the porch....
Elderberry bush in bloom, next to an 8 ft tree "stump" with a bird house my Dad built, to the north....and lots of grass and trees.

Goldfinch on the tube feeder....taking pictures through the screen is difficult.
You can see the neighbor's house in the lower right corner of this pic...

Climbing rose in garden to the east...

Milkweed blooming in garden near roses.....

It is a very relaxing, peaceful place......we are blessed.....

...and the chicken yard is east of the garden pictured so here is a gratuitous pic of the New Hampshire cockerel I hatched from eggs I got from Pauletta (202roosterlane)....

notafarm...lovely place!!!!

I love how green everything is ! (wish we could grow grass)

have you ever done anything with the elderberries? we have one kind of elderberry bush but nothing to pollinate it. I need to remedy that, (evidently you need two kinds?) so we get flowers but no berries
