The Front Porch Swing

Hope all goes well you both take care and know we care and are praying.

Hi everyone

Long time no talk. Does anyone have doubleatraining s paypal info?

BM6 and I are still working on getting our swaps out. I lost 300+ eggs in an rotten egg incubator explosion, gross.

Things are progressing here. Thanks to everyone for being supportive and patient. I have 300+ PM's still to answer, I'm trying to do some each day.

I think we got 4, 1 I gave a friend to go with her lone midget she had. I lost the rest when the raccoons raided my grow out pens. I lost barthuners, CCL, lav Orps, Breda, pavlovoskya hens and I don't know what all else. I did kill 4 of the beasts last week including the mother who was expecting again.

The great pryn pups watched me kill the raccoons and I think they have the idea now. We had some loud commotion the last few nights with the full moon and the dogs were up and patrolling so I think they chased the remaining raccoon from that den off. Our raccoon hunter friend says we have at least 2 more dens on the property that he knows of, I guess I need him to point them out to me.

All is not lost yesterday I got a breeding flock of pavlovoskaya and blue breeda fowl from GFF. ;)

. Oh no!

We are having serious problems with cats. They keep getting my layer chicks. We've taken care of a few, but last night we had kittens show up! SOAB!

I got some of those cute little Pavs. They are so cute! Alex call them his monkey birds because they remind him of the costumes on Planet of the Apes. I think I have two sets. They are just tiny! So glad you could get more.

What do you think of those little midgets? Of all the turkeys I've raised I think they are my favorite. They just LOVE us. Yesterday my husband and I were talking outside and Alex laid down. Midgets piled on to the point we didn't even see him. They just love people contact. They are also my best huggers!

If you guys still have the Hedemora I need to hit you up for more eggs hen you have time. We had two hatch, but one died in the incubator. The other is black and oh so tiny and cute. Can't wait to see how it grows out.

I hope you get all the coons! We use live traps with carcasses. If hubby is home he handles them from there. If not I have the neighbor come down. Those suckers are way to heavy or me to pick up.

Hope you've been feeling better too! Every time I think of you I think of my friend, Melody, and I miss her. I also remember all the love and friendship I had with her too. She was taken away from us way to early for me.

Just got in from locking everyone up and doing a head count. Everyone accounted for. About a half an hour ago, we heard an animal scream outside. I headed out the front door and DH headed out the back door. DH spotted the fox high-tailing it back across the street to the woods where it lives. We are trying to figure out if it was the fox that screamed and was it because of the cats, my SFH roo (with very long, very sharp spurs) or the donkeys that sent him packing.

Or maybe one of the cats screamed, but none of them even seemed upset and none of the roos were alarming. Everyone on the farm seemed quite content. The only one that was upset was the fox.

So, anyone know the best way to bait/trap a fox?

Hey everyone, just found this thread! How is everyone doing?
want opinions. I'm looking at a trio of bantam black orps(English), A quad of chocolate bantam wyandottes, and 10 one week old BLRW chicks straight run, directly from Foleys. Traded for $130 plus a trio of SQ snowy calls. The wyandottes are direct foley breeding.

Sound like a deal?

I've no idea what any of those birds are worth, but it sounds good to me!

Fox screams are so unnerving! Hope you are either able to get this one or it has been sufficiently scared off.

*The two Orp girls that I hatched from you last fall are filling out nicely. I can still tell the difference between the two because the one has yellow with an overlay of black feet. She is the one that came out of a SFH egg. They are both beautiful and inseparable. I'll have to get some recent pictures of them.

Hi Laurie!

I need to get a picture of the very pretty girl I hatched from your Icelandic eggs. I now have 4 pullets and no roos.

But I don't think I am going to keep them. They are a bit small for me.

I'm glad that you got something out of the eggs and a girl

Yes, Icelandic hens are not very big birds at all, especially when you compare them to your Orps or SFH.

I have decided that I am the queen of hatching SFH roos. I have one girl (from Beth) and have had to rehome countless roos. Two roos left here for me to decided who gets to stay. So far they get along very well and haven't overtaxed my lone girl. I'm going to try hatching some of her eggs and hope I can get some daughters for her to spend time with.

The only thing I'm allowing myself to put into the incubator.

Hope you are staying cool!

We have a nice break in the weather right now. We turned the air off and have opened the windows. I am trying to put it to good use and getting projects done outside. We had friends over yesterday and it was actually too cold to go swimming! We took the kids to the park instead and had to get up from the bench in the shade and move to the one in the sun. I wish the rest of the summer would stay like this. Getting down into the 50's again tonight.
