Woo, except for the red comb it is looking like a pullet. It really doesn't have the pointed saddle and hackle feathers. That bird is perfect for a show!!! I had a hen start laying at 17 weeks it could be why it is so pink. For you let's hope for hen!

I read on the Fermented Feed thread that it makes combs and wattles more red. Perhaps that is why the comb seems pinkish early. It is 16 weeks old today so maybe I'll be seeing a blue egg soon!

Interesting to know that about the FF. I guess I haven't gotten that far yet in the thread. I have 4 Isbars that are 6 weeks old and from the size of the combs and wattles, they look like pullets, but they look a little pink, so had me really wondering. I guess I need to get some more eggs and hatch a roo!

Anyone ever notice their chickens' combs and wattles seem to become a more colourful, deeper red after feeding FF. I have a few 12 week olds and a couple on particular had pale combs before feeding FF; now that I have had them on FF for a couple of weeks their combs appear to be getting more colourful and red. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ?

In my inexperienced opinion, it is due to the extra hydration that they receive. It is commonly known that a dehydrated person will have thicker blood, thus restricted blood flow. That's why a person experiencing heat distress or a heat stroke is often pale. By providing wet feed, you are dramatically increasing their water intake and boosting their hydration. With the thinner blood, it will circulate and flow much better, resulting in brighter combs and wattles. Both of these are used as a primary means of temperature regulation in poultry, so there are a large number of blood vessels in them. That's the reason that they recommend dubbing your cockerels during cooler or cold weather.

I hatched 5 of the 6 eggs from madam choco orps. All 5 are black so therefor boys. Anyone need a good black boy, lol? I'm gonna be overrun in Roos! The one that made it to lockdown and didn't hatched was black also. I'm hoping the other choc orp eggs I've got hatch out mostly pullets! I've got 5 of 9 of them that made it through the first week of incubation. I'm the roo hatching master this year!

I only have one chick from madam and it is brown. If that means I have a hen, I would love a little guy to go with her!

We are so happy and blessed. We have 4 Augsburgers laying and confirmed fertility tonight. Yippee at the fair these guys lay and how young they lay I may have a new favorite layer.
