Oh, oh. Look, look. See the pretty blue egg! See Blooie smile. Mother, Father, Dick, Jane, Sally, Spot and Puff like the blue egg too.

Woke up with the worst headache and sore throat! My head in throbbing and my throat hurts so bad. Put a whole chicken in my big soup pot as soon as I got home from dropping my son off at preschool. Now will let that cook and make the noodles while the daycare kids nap. I love chicken noodle soup, but this is the worst headache

the good news is I can use up the broccoli and some collards from the garden in the soup.

Hate headaches but have them often so i feel your pain. Your chicken soup sounds yummy and homemade noodles? Sign me up! Feel better soon.
With me its loose 10 gain 20 loose 20 gain 40.... my biggest mistake was believing the hype about being thin. I was 22 and 135 and thought I was fat... started dieting.... I went to high school when Twiggy was the hype.

You are a horse person. This guy showed up in our yard this morning. He's so gentle. We've been unable to locate it's owners so far. The sheriff's department is looking as well. What do I need to do if he's with us a few days? I don't really "know" horses.
Oh the little girl on me is going, "can we keep him?" And the adult in me is going, "
Are you insane?"
I agree with both sentiments :) Good luck, I hope they find the owner, if he has been well cared for someone out there is heartbroken.

First, be very careful with that rope around his neck. I don't even like to tie a horse with a halter, but a rope around the neck is really dangerous. Second, don't feed him much. Horses will colic and could die if fed too much of something that they are not used to. Too much is very little. It would be safeest to only feed him grass and hay. If you must give him a prepared feed, stick to only a handful at a time, with an hour between, for several days. Horses are the reason "Murphey's Law" was written. Next, try to locate someone in your area that has horses, and ask for the name and number of the local farriers (horse shoers) and call them. They are the ones that know all the horses and who owns them. You may also see if there is a boarding stable or nearby land owner that will let you rent a stall/paddock/pasture by the day until you know more.

First, find a stall/paddock/pasture to put him in, that rope around his head is dangerous. Even with a halter, a horse can't be tied overnight.

Second, feed him grass or hay only until you find the owner or are told by the Sheriffs department that the owner cannot be found and you have made a "reasonable effort." That's what the law requires......

Third, call around to barns, feed stores, large animal vets, tack shops, etc. and get the names of the local farriers (horse shoers.) Those guys know all the horses and owners in the area. That horse will stand out and be easy to recognize from a description.

Good luck and thanks fro caring for him until he gets back home!

Sorry, I thought the first reply I typed was lost. Also, I know you asked Perchiegirl, but I thought you needed the help in a hurry.

Thats a very cute Leopard Appalossa.... Hes in good weight so hes been loved by some one ... Probably in pasture somewhere. If so they might not know he is missing.

I looked at the picture closely.... PLEASE Do NOT tie him around the neck. If you have to,,,, do a Bowline style knot that does not slip and leave enough space to slip your hand through.. Keep an eye out that the rope does not wrap around an ankle as well. If he gets tangled he may fight to free himself. I have seen horses perminantely damaged from rope burns. I have seen horses strangled because they pulled back and the knot was not "fixed" as a bowline knot is. And a horse even a small one can pull a knot so tight you have to cut the rope to get it off.

Also giving rides on a strange horse is exceedingly dangerous... I dont care how sweet.

If it seems like i am coming down on you please dont i am emphasizing for your own safety. If your local animal control has the facilities this would be the best place for him.... If they cant find the owner he will be placed with a knowledgeable family.

If hes going to be with you a few days go and purchase a halter for a standard sized horse. there will be a ring down by his chin to fasten the tie out rope to. Ideally that rope should be tied so that it wont touch the ground when he is grazing. They also make horse collars but I dont like them. The throat area is a very vulnerable place.

Since you dont know what he was eating where he lived It would be safe to purchase a bale of Bermuda or grass hay. DO NOT feed grass clippings. A bale of bermuda should last a couple of days depending on the size. when you crack open the bale it will break apart in what I call Flakes. about two to four inches thick depending on the machinery to bale it. A flake should weigh about five pounds. Weigh it at first. I would give him fifteen pounds per day.... divided into two or three feedings.

My mare drings 110 gallons of water every two days.... Water is very very important for their digestion... Oh and the poo is good in the compost pile...

Humane society.... or equivalent. Best choice. acquiring the knowledge to care for a horse takes a couple of months with the oversight of a teacher.... Best way I can say it.

Good idea about places to call.... Farriers is a very good bet. though here there are at least a hundred.... Posting pictures at the feed stores also.

I would not feed anything but grass or baled bermuda. And I have seen horses quite successfully tied overnight. The best way is to string a picket line between two trees. about six feet high. Tie the horse to that in the middle with enough rope so he/she can lay down. Which means when they lay down the rope does not touch the ground.
It takes a knowledgeable person to set it up.

We used to do overnight trail rides riding out from the barn to a grove of trees on Miramar land. There the trucks would have brought our gear and the picket lines strung. Most horses wont lie down on a picket... some do though. The whole boarding stable would go.... we are talking about at least 25 horses.

I will get my dad to redo the rope with a better knot. I was just doing the best I could with what I have and trusted my gut. It hasn't failed me yet. We live on the main highway and I was worried he would get hit.

I don't understand why no one in our area is looking for him if he is that recognizable.

I want to put his picture out on fb but I don't want someone claiming him that he doesn't belong to.
