Havent heard the peepers this year yet..... I am afraid the drought may be the culprit.... because the are usually out and about all winter too.

My Dad had surgery to remove his voice box so he talked with a mechanical one. He loved to sit on the front porch and talk to his friend. A frog he named Fred. Fred loved the sound and every time Daddy would say something he would croak right back at him. Daddy had a lot of fun with him. It's the little things that bring happiness. Right?![]()
They should show up after the first rain. Amazing things....Havent heard the peepers this year yet..... I am afraid the drought may be the culprit.... because the are usually out and about all winter too.

Quote: Last year we got a third of the rain we were supposed to..... So far this year we have gotten about a half inch. There is a little runoff pond below the house that has moisture in it most years but it is dry and the cattails have gone dormant. In the past we have kept an aoutomatic dog bowl waterer in the back yard and we always had at least two friggies hanging around because of that.... but My Rosie passed away last year... so the froggies are gone.... sigh. THey were sooo cute too about the size of your thumbnail.... often times they would hang on the glass of the sliding glass door. Little creamy green undrbellies with their suction grip toes all spread out.
Amazing noise comes from those eensy little throats...

The lizards are out doing their courtships and dominance shows..... Bobbing their heads and dewlaps flung forward.... "I'm so Handsome" then another one comes out "I am Sooo handsomer" then the fight ensues.... The victor to come back in the sunny spot.... "I'm so Handsome... ooh ohh hot feet" then diagonal feet lift off the ground.... then switching to the other two.... "I'm so handsome..... Oooh Bug... " and off he goes.
