The Front Porch Swing

Light up shoes are always a hit.. Thomas kept stomping his feet in his first pair. Marked down for $7 at wal-mart. I refuse to pay full price for things they wear 6 months. I've gotten nice leather shoes for $0.59 at the thrift store.

Thomas is going to be 3 tomorrow. I just made him a 'cake' (banana chocolate corn bread.. it's gluten-free). I had wanted to get him balloons, but we've been a sick ward all week. Johnathan brought a stomach bug home with him from his mom's on Monday.. we all have taken turns with it. Thomas got an ear infection on top of that. But, I think we're all ok now.

He honestly has no idea what a birthday is.. but still, gotta try and make the best of it.

Next week we're going to get started with all the therapy from the school system. Got something scheduled every day of the week. No fun for a hermit

Whoa....Thomas is turning three? When did that happen? I musta slept right through it! Give him a happy birthday hug from me, please? Glad that the therapy is getting started through the school. That's got to be easier than what you were trying to handle before. Sorry you've been sick, though. A lot of people have tried to define what Purgatory is like, but I know for sure! It's two kids and two grownups with stomach flu, in a 10 x 60 , one bathroom mobile home!

Blooie, Light up wheels!? That's pretty cool! Too bad she can't see them though, but I'm sure it's nice that they get other kids to come over! And that they all are impressed with the lights! She is such a lovely little girl.
Thanks, Alice. She is the light of our lives! When we first learned from the blood work and ultrasounds that Kendra would be born with Spina Bifida, we had a sort of impromptu family meeting with all the information the specialists had given us, and we discussed what we would be faced with teaching her. Stupid us - we had it backwards! She's the one doing the teaching.

Jonathan and I literally tossed whatever Thomas can eat into a bowl, added some eggs and chocolate chips and baked it in the cornbread skillet. Hey, it worked.

Unfortunately, mama was a dummy, ate a greasy burger for dinner after two days of saltines and bananas... and well, I've been up all night. Amelia felt much the same after eating carrots and chicken after no real solid for two days, so we kept eachother up. Poor thing.

Back to saltines we are.

Thomas has already gotten all of his gifts over the past few weeks as they arrived in the mail. He doesn't like presents anyway, so it's all good.

He's gotten a weighted blanket with Toy Story characters on it, with green minky fabric on the other size. A new chewy (which he didn't care for and I have no idea where it's now). A scooter board (which is probably the world's worst idea

). And a chair swing for his room. And a trampoline....

Ok we got a him a lot.

But it's all part therapy, so really.... he needed these things.

Absolutely! You all are lucky to have her and she is lucky to have you! That's one thing my niece showed us! She touched everyone she met, and many people she didn't. I know I learned more from her, by far, then she ever learned from me.

Happy birthday! Good job with the "cake". He looks happy! The gifts sound perfect. They will make him happy and they are something that will be used. When I worked in the group home, the weighted blankets (for some of the kids) and weighted vests (for outings) could be a life saver! But some didn't care for them. Also, I want a swing in my room! Lol. Sorry about being up all night. I've done that before. I haven't eaten, then something sounds good and I eat it, then I just get sick all over again. Feel better. Thomas is such a cutie eating his cake!

One of the techs at work has light up wheels on his wheelchair. He was paralyzed diving into a backyard pool when he was 24. The lights are to catch peoples attention and show how fast he is going so that he doesn't cause any accidents in the hallways. It is kinda hard to guess how fast he is going sometimes, but it is not a problem of people catching up to him!
