The Front Porch Swing

Hey guys and girls
Adjusting to living in Vancouver, WA. Love it, love it. Just getting away from the Shreveport heat and humidity is fine. I can handle the slight rain up here. The subdivision is on a hill so the land slopes down back to front AND that means no chickens. Sad about that but lots of room on the deck to container garden.
Blooie, thanks so much for your supporting words on the death of my beloved daughter. What I thought was a visit is now permanent. I'm grateful Aimee got me safely away before she chose to take her journey. It's been five weeks now and I'm doing well. I will be happy again. No need to talk about this. I'm fine

@Blooie did you get any snow yet? My friends in Cheyenne posted about snow flurries the other day. Sounds like I'm going to be driving to work through snow flakes in the early, early am.

I clearly missed something! I am so sorry Linda, I didn't know your daughter had passed. It must be horribly painful for you.

I'm glad to hear you are loving Vancouver! We were up there not too long ago and may be headed back up in December. We are planning on moving in the next year or two and we are checking out places. I am from Oregon and I was so shocked when I saw Mt. Hood! I have never in my life seen it where it's not completely covered in snow. I am from a town about an hour from Portland in Oregon, if Mt. Hood wasn't so distinctive, I would have thought I must be looking at a different mountain! It makes me happy to hear others excited about moving to an area we are looking at. I am glad you are loving it. I will keep you in my thoughts. I know nothing I can say will help with the hurt of loosing a child, but I will be thinking of you.

Which town Alice? My Dad and step-mother moved to Yamhill in ~1976. From there they moved to McMinnville then Wilsonville. My step-mother died ~8 years ago, Dad just moved back to So. Cal a few weeks ago. My college roommate lives in Oregon City.

Dad was saying the same thing about the Sierras and lack of snow when he flew back and forth this year. No snow at Tahoe? Never seen that in the nearly 40 years he travelled between Oregon and So. Cal.

Small world! I was born in Salem, then moved to Yamhill for a few years then we moved to McMinnville! That's where I lived the longest and went to high school. My dad still lives in McMinnville. I can't believe how big Yamhill is now, I think it's close to 1000 people now. It was under 500 when I lived there I believe. Even smaller when your family lived there. Such a beautiful area. Funny driving the back roads how many places have turned into wineries now!

Wait, I googled it. According to Wikipedia, in 2013 Yamhills population was 1026! Big city

Very small indeed! Yep, I think the Yamhill sign said 480 when they moved to Yamhill and 640 by the time they left. They were originally on a RR but someone decided the roads should have names so they "moved" to Puddy Gulch Road. Who makes up these names anyway?!?!?

I know! Some of the names.... That's just too funny. My husband really likes that area, I do to, but it's to close to family. I need a good six hour buffer at least

. He really likes washington too, so I'm saying we are moving to Washington and he's fine with that. So we're headed up there again in December it looks like to check out a few more places and look at others we liked again. Then we will probably spend Christmas in McMinnville before we head home. They make the town look so cute at Christmas and for some reason my son thinks my dad walks on water
