The Front Porch Swing

My sisters kids love pie!  My niece requested pumpkin pie for her birthday treat - in July.  So I want to make sure I have enough for everyone.  We always have relatives that stop by so more is better.

Are you doing all pumpkin, or a few different kinds? I'm sure your nieces will be thrilled and no pie will go to waste! I'm sure they wouldn't mind if they "have" to have pie for breakfast the next day... so it won't go bad, of course

You have all been so busy! All I did was get shaved today. But we are all packed, car is mostly loaded except for the 6 chickens we are taking back, and we're heading to South Dakota first thing in the morning. Kinda anxious to get there.. I want to spend as many Thanksgivings with my family as I can now that I'm older. Since we almost lost my sister Linda - a few times - I don't want to miss a minute with those amazing people who are my very best friends!

Everyone be safe, have fun, and enjoy!

@Blooie Have a safe trip!

I will be making 2 pumpkin pies, an apple pie and a cherry pie. The kids will want pumpkin, Dad likes apple and Mom wants Cherry. Cherry is my favorite also. I have cherries in the freezer that I picked this fall up in Door County - so it will be a good one!

@Blooie It sounds like you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope you have an uneventful drive there and get as much time as possible with family.

@wyoDreamer It sounds like you have all the bases covered in the pie department! Yum!

Thanks guys! I've never driven 700 miles with 6 live chickens before - we'll see how that goes! If we get stranded on the side of the road at least we'll have eggs and meat available!

We'll be missing 6 at the table. Ashley is back in the hospital with fevers they can't control and word came down tonight that she tested positive for chicken pox. NOT good news for a little girl fighting leukemia. She'll be in the hospital for some time, by the sounds of it, and her mom Jenna, dad Chad, and the other 3 kids will be missing as well. Prayers would be appreciated!

Take care of each other...I'll check in when I can. Happy Thanksgiving!

Safe travels to everyone traveling this week!!

I just made some orange cranberry sauce to offer next to the canned jellied stuff that is usually at Thanksgiving. I like the homemade stuff better, but some prefer the glob of gunk, lol! (cranberries from WI, Wyodreamer!! Just need a little spotted cow to make thing feel a bit more like back home!!)

Just confirmed both my boys are allergic to cats, so they will be dosed with allergy meds daily this week so we can survive visiting Dh's parent's house. We are only staying two nights, and we are pulling our camper up with us, so they will have somewhere to go if their allergies get too bad.

I can't believe it. My boys and allergies. I spent my childhood snuggled up to kitties and laying in a hay barn!! Hopefully the allergy medicine works and we don't end up having to do breathing treatments for a week.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sorry bout the allergies. That would be a deal breaker for me! I love my pets! Couldn't imagine my life without a cat... or dog.

Yes, all stay safe, as well as your pets while you are traveling, if that's in your plans!

This is all so new to me!! If anyone has advice, I'm open to it!! Hopefully it is something they will grow out of. We have always had a dog and the boys each have a pet rat, no issues with them at all. All of this just started this past summer. We have stayed at places with cats many times before, with no issues. This summer we went to a birthday party at a horse farm. After the tour of the stable, both boys had runny itchy eyes and the younger one was breaking out in a rash. I have a horse. Both boys have been on my horse with no issues. I figure it must have been the barn and mold maybe. It was quite old.

Then, labor day we went to Dh's parent's house. We got in late, so we stayed in the house the first night and the tent the remaining nights. The entire weekend we had to do breathing treatments for both boys and Jacob's never got better. He ended up having to be on a steroid to help him get over it. I now have my alarm on my phone set so I remember to give them medicine each day so we don't end up wearing out the nebulizer again. Hopefully the weather is warm and they can be outside. Sad, though, because they love playing with the kitties.

Oh man, sorry about the allergies. That would be hard. My son has a friend who is allergic to cats, but I vacuum my house everyday and vacuum extra when I know he will be coming and so far he has never had a problem at my house, but it's just play dates, not spending the night. At least it just seems to be cats. When I was pregnant I would have nightmares my baby would be allergic to dogs! I was like, "what will we do? We can't get rid of Ruby!" Lol. But no allergies, so yay! I wish I had some helpful tips for you. I hope it's a fun week with no trouble for the boys.
