The Front Porch Swing

Thank you LindaB . We look like Mutt and Jeff when we are together. He is 6'2" and I'm 5'2" high and wide.

Been together for almost 37 years. I think the key to our 37 year marriage is both of us put God first and then everything else just falls together. The first 5 years wasn't so great but then Don was saved and his whole demeanor changed. God has blessed us in so many ways and may I forever give Him praise.

What a full on blessing to hear this! I so wish more people knew the "secret" to a good marriage....God first, help mate second, and God won't let that down if both earnestly seek His face and will for their lives. You are right about that "falling into place"...that exactly describes what happened to my life when I finally gave all my will and wants for myself over to God~then everything fell into place and life got so incredibly easier than when I was trying to manage it myself and trying to go my own way. Like greasin' the skids of life, that was!

He is to be praised to the highest, indeed!

You could try just filing his nails rather than trimming, just sort of make them smoother. But if feathers are gone, say under the wings, not sure this will eliminate the problem but it might help.

It is worth a try, anyway. It's really the only thing I can think of to address this type of breeding accident ... except for keeping the roosters separate and doing AI ... but ... ugh.

These three birds have been living alone together (apart from the GenPop flock) since I brought them home Mid-October last year. They are a pretty tight group. I just don't know how to protect the injury without keeping her apart from the others. And I don't like keeping birds in small cages because I think they are easier targets for parasites.

I'm going to see if I can modify the whole coop & run so she has more room to move around and can go outside. I've been wanting to divide up that big coop for ages. And I have an idea how I want to do it. Now is as good a time as any. I just need some longer pieces of wood and some chicken wire and zip ties ... and a staple gun and ... my sawzall ... the wheels are turning!

He said to tell you he is a Flan Man and would love some of your sweet mustard while he gets his nails done.

I've got some of that fancy banana duck egg stuff waiting in a crystal bowl for him. Fat Cochin eats out of Waterford Crystal, right?

That banana stuff turned a sickly blue gray when I chilled it. Guts had some for breakfast ... the birds are getting the rest as their afternoon treat. Acky!

You can always make her a saddle....

I've never had a hen ripped open from breeding, so this may be a feather or skin quality issue you might look into in regards to your breeding...you may not want to breed that anyway. No way should it be that easy to lay a hen open merely by breeding unless it's a young meaty bird...their skin tears if you look at it for too long.

Quote: I drink my buttermilk with salt and pepper on it..... just a little for each sip. My dad drank it that way.

He mixed peanut butter with maple syrup and ate it with a spoon.

Oh and Fill a glass with crumbled saltien crackers then pour milk in to cover em all then eat em with a spoon. Good for settling your stommach but just good. Both mom and dad loved that.

Dad got harrassed because he carried his lard pail to school. The bullies would chase him all the way home. He was in grade school and pushing six feet tall. and very thin probably around 90 pounds. They made the mistake of cornering him.... He told them fighting was stupid. What they didnt know was he was thin but he WORKED the farm with his dad and sisters. He could buck hay along with the field hands.... The biggest kid tackled dad. Dad pulled him down and wrapped his legs around him and locked his ankles and started squeezing. He squeezed the air out of his lungs till he was crying to be let go. They never bothered him again.

By the way Dad was the youngest out of five His sisters taught him how to fight.... LOL. And they Hayed with the field hands as well.

That's a great story!!! I love those kind....when the underdog gets the better of bullies. I eat my buttermilk with just salt but others in my family use pepper too. Buttermilk every day just cured my mother of a stomach ulcer and H. pylori overgrowth in the ulcer. Now she takes a bit each morning to keep her GI cultured with the good stuff.

I absolutely LOVE buttermilk. But I want the Bolivarian Style. It is so rich and thick and FATTENING! It's got tons of fat in it. It will make a Fat girl drool.

It may be Bulgarian style..... either way it's good stuff.

I can see how that's true!

One of my exes used to say, "Trust you to turn any project into a cooking project!" because of the creative uses I came up with for various ingredients and kitchen tools. And I'm not really much of a cook, so he had to dig to find that insult.

I've used Corn Starch for damaged combs ... don't like to use other stuff so close to their eyes and noses ... and we did get some stiptic powder that we used when we did the spurs.
