The Front Porch Swing

Quote:
I was stopped beside one of the first responders who was getting his gear on, and I asked him what I needed to do to get out of the way.... He told me to either go around it, or turn around, but I needed to move so they could get the fire trucks and ambulances in there.

I have a friend that works at the hospital, and gets all the 911 call information. She said that there was 1 DOA, and they air lifted one to the major hospital an hour away, and that there were kids in the vehicle. She said that the call came in at 5:52.... my receipt for the chili says 5:55. If I hadn't stopped, I probably would have been involved in the wreck, and they would have hit me head on.
God was definitely watching out for me. I just pray that those hurt are ok, and that the family is comforted with the loss.
Dang Lindz, you are getting it from every side. Sounds like to me you have peed somebody off. You must be doing something right. Don't worry sis, praying a hedge of protection around you and yours!

**PRAYER BOMB NEEDED FOR LINDZ**
I'm watching my toes! and everything else!!!!! Maybe I should get a helmet as well... hmm...

I wonder if this was God's way of saying, it could always be worse...... I really try not to complain, but it seems like I have done a lot of complaining this week, and very little praising.... SO.......

PRAISE GOD that I was able to make it home to my wonderful husband and kids this evening. Praise God that my kids only have the sniffles or stomach bugs, and are healthy otherwise. Praise God that I have an amazing husband that loves me and supports our family. Praise God that I am able to stay home while my kids are little. Praise God for all the daily blessings that he bestows upon me. Praise God, for every little smile, hug, giggle, kiss and everything else from my kids! Praise God for my parents, my In-Laws, and the rest of my family. Praise God for my friends in my life. Praise God, for every breath that he gives me!

Y'all know what I really really want? ...an outdoor shower and outhouse.
I am planning both for my master bedroom modification. Just a shower with a little propane water heater and a Stock tank to catch the water and redirect it to a french drain or some trees.... and My Sawdust potty.

My first year up there I was a Total Newbie to living with a well and pumps and Pump saver switches. The well shut down because of a component that needed to be replaced. No water in the house. So I did have the Stock tank that had 3000 gallons in it. But its not plumbed on the house. So I got a garden hose and put one of my flannel pajamas on because the hose would only reach the front porch of the house. And proceeded to take a bath Soap and all while sitting on the stoop. Coooollld water yeper... but it was 105 degrees outside at the time.

After that I found out the local hotel would let you use their Pool Shower for 5 bucks.... Heaven. All sorted out now.

Oh..... Bee, I got another MONSTER egg yesterday......
The left is huge from one of my EE's... the right is a normal, large egg from my Golden comets. I am averaging one of these a week, and the one I think has been laying them, laid another fairly large, but normal egg today.....

God loves you Lindz. We can have some real trying times sometimes but God has His angels watching over you and yours. I know I do far more complaining than praising. :( You are right, we have so much to be thankful for. But no doubt life can be trying. Sending prayers your way that things will lighten up on you and yours.

Thanks TW..... ((HUGS))

Boy, leave the porch to get something done and what happens......unable to keep up again! But I'll try my best, and if I miss ya this go-around it wasn't intentional!

Congrats on the new mooly cows! But then I love all things Scottish - well, Hagis not so much, although I eat it once a year in February.

Lindz, what you saw today is exactly what Ken and I disagree on all the time. If we're getting ready to head out the door and the phone rings, or Katie or Evan stop by for a second, or I got the makeup applied right to one eye and the other looks weird and needs to be fixed, or the guy in the big truck hauling a mile long horse trailer means I have to sit by and wait until there's room for me at the gas pump, or whatever, I don't sweat it. I have no problem with delays in getting out the door, for exactly the reason you talked about. Ken, on the other hand, has no patience for delays. I tried to explain it a few times, but he always comes back with, "Great theory. But that can work the other way too.....like if we hadn't left late that deer we hit would have already been across the road and eating 10 minutes before we met up with him." Don't try to make sense, honey - you aren't very good at it. <Snicker>

Can't remember who all was talking about the man in the duck video complicating things. I haven't taken the time to watch it, but from what I gather it would probably just irritate me anyway. I have reached a few conclusions about men and complications in my lifetime. I have a theory that those stupid hand dryers in restrooms, turn signal indicator levers with every function known to man stuffed into them, high heeled shoes and panti hose were all invented by men. I can't imagine a woman on earth thinking any of those things were good ideas. But we use 'em all, so go figger....

Bee, couldn't find the poultry nipples today in Cody. Not a happy camper - came home to an empty waterer again. But I went to Amazon and ordered some. It's just that by the time they get here the chicks will be checked into Motel Chix and probably complaining about the room service. Did get rid of the newspapers and went with straight litter, but the dirt I haven't come up with. What we have is still soggy and nasty wet. I didn't get home from Cody until 4:30 so I had two choices - dig up some dirt and find a place to spread it out to dry, or get the priming started. I opted to work on the coop on the theory that I've survived this long - the sooner I get that coop done the sooner I get my house and sanity back. So the coop won. I got one entire wall done before it got too cold, and I was starving. Planned on pig cheeks, mashed taters and scalloped corn tonight. I ate leftover pizza.

Whew....almost there. Glad that those of you who were a little under the weather are moving a little better today. Wish we'd hear from our storm tossed porch sitter, but maybe she's just without power. Still sending prayers to those who want them, and even those who don't - like the jerk who yelled at me at Walmart today. We opted to leave Kendra's wheel chair in the car and just put her directly into a shopping cart and go into the store, and I'd forgotten my walker in the car Ken took to Sheridan. Now, I'm glad that he saw Kendra and me as able bodied, even though Kendra has to be carried if she's not chaired, and I'm doubly glad that he at least cares whether the people who take up handicapped parking spaces are entitled to use them. But first of all, you can't judge a disability based solely on needing a medical device to ambulate, and second, there are much nicer ways to approach me and inquire without walking right up to me and resorting to calling me a "stupid, selfish *****" who's only disability is "pure assed f'ing laziness", especially in front of my grandkids. I handled it. I smiled at him and said, "There are some disabilities that can't be seen with the naked eye, and there are some disabilities that don't seem to exist until the unfortunate disabled person opens his mouth. Would you like to borrow my placard?" So as much as I hate to, I'll add him to the prayer list too. Think I'll pray that he never needs a disabled placard, but that if he ever does, his paperwork gets lost in the DMV for a few weeks. Is that so wrong? Okay, you're right. I'll leave that part out.

Has anybody heard from Windy Bay?  She hasn't posted since the big bad storm went through her area.

I've been wondering about WBF too. I hope all is well. The the power is off I hope not for long.

ME too!  Don't seem good

Evening ya'll. I guess I spoke too soon the other evening when I said the power was still on - wasn't long after that that a transformer blew out near my home and we lost power... For 42 hours. The power was restored around 3 PM today (TDubya, how did you know we were without power? Lol) Good thing I filled the tub and a few jugs of water !

It was one of the nastiest storms I have seen in quite some time. We received wind gusts of 76 mph and around 24" of snow... Some drifts were 7 ft tall, roadways blocked off that even the government highway plow trucks couldn't handle. A wind gust measured by a oceanic buoy in the Bay of Fundy measured a wind gust of 118 mph... That's a lot more than I care to see. The last time I seen a storm like this was back in February 2004 when we received about 40" of snow. Although my property, home and outbuildings did not sustain any damage, some places did and I am praying for them, and I ask you do the same.

As for those that asked about my breed of chickens, just some old hatchery stock that includes RIR's, Black Sex Links and BR's... Oh, and of course Rodney, who is a BA rooster ! They're definitely tough ! The chickens were hunkered down in their coop to ride out the storm. It blustered so hard that there was 5 inches of snow that blew in around the middle roost through the tiniest crack.. I went out yesterday morning to the girls eating it :gig Guess they thought they would clean it up so I wouldn't have too :lau

Thank you all so very much for your prayers and concern. The Lord certainly was keeping His mighty hand of protection upon us and He heard your prayers. You're all wonderful and I am so blessed to have each and everyone of you in my life. God Bless you all :hugs

Whew! That must have been awful! So glad that you "weathered the storm" (sorry, somebody was going to make a bad pun eventually and I figured I'd start the ball rolling with the most obvious one) and that you and yours are okay. Resilient chickens - and here I'm sweating putting mine out this week because it might be little nippy! Well, at this point it's either get them out or serve them for dinner, pretending they aren't young chicks, they're squab! Welcome back to the porch, where it's always warm and cozy!
