The Front Porch Swing

Oh, honey, I'll have to have you over for supper - a "family sitting down as usual" meal!

Oh yes I would love that!

With regard to Beets.... Most people skinn them after they cook them. its easier.... I cant make myself do that. I peel them undre a dribble of water with a potato peeler.... While Beets do have an earth tone flavor in there I havent found the taste to be objectionable.

Before I learned how to pickle them myself I had never eaten fresh beets before. only canned. I prefer the fresh. About three years ago I saw one of the Cooking channel programs.... Saw how easy it was so I went for it.

I also gave beet greens a try at the same time. They are a bit of work but cooked then tossed with sliced beets drizzled with a bit of vinegar and a pat of butter.... OMG.

Oh, I just love beets....but only the ones I grow and freeze! Canned or pickled? Not this Porchie!! Funny, when I was growing up Ma had one clear glass bowl - only one. She'd mash up a "mess-a-beets" and mound them up in that pretty bowl, with a drizzle of melted butter, made and served exactly like mashed potatoes. Oh, how yummy they were with lots of salt and pepper and that melted butter! And it looked so pretty on the table, too!
Maybe I need some "home grown"

I am one of those girls that will eat pretty much anything and beets are just not there. Maybe if I peel some home grown ones, then it would make the difference.

So today my BB Boy (Beautiful Baby Boy, what I called him when he was a baby) turned 10.  Can not believe how fleeting time is!  God has really blessed me with a very caring and wonderful child, I thank him everyday for him :love Happy Birthday Huston!!!!

Yay, it's his birthday! Send him a hug from me! Oh my goodness, did he get the egg I painted?! Did he like it? Or is that for another event/special occasion? I don't recall anymore, haha!

So, I missed a day and finally caught up. Not as bad as some days, but still took a while. So, here I go

1. WATER TANKS - We had a blue, plastic round kiddie pool for our Irish Setter back in WI, because it was so hot and humid. When we moved to wonderful Wyoming, I knew after the first storm that a plastic kiddie pool was not going to work. I could imagine it rolling down the prairie to Nebraska ... - so we bought a sheep tank! Galvanized metal tank, 4'x2'x12" tall, so our old lab could get in and out OK if she wanted to. He loved his Wyoming pool, it was deeper than his kiddie pool. He loved to splash in it. I have a really cute video of him with his pool, but I don't know how to insert video here. Can I load one from my hard-drive?

2. Welcome to the newbies. Congrats on the new hatchlings.

3. I don't think I have ever eaten a beet. I made roasted asparagus for supper tonight. My first time roasting it and it was pretty good.

4. Here is an easter pic for y'all - some eggs that I dyed a couple of years ago with "natural colors", I used some old stuff in the freezer to make the dyes - the blue ones were blueberries, yellow was turmeric, red was raspberries and the orange/purple/green were double dipped. It was something I saw on-line and had to try it.
