Oh that's right! I knew I forgot something. I read the first post and saw that. I'll try to find a really nice picture from out my front door at sunset! So pretty!

Quote: Oh I got snakes..... When we had to do some brush cleaning on the property my neighbor helped. Now this is a man who can whisper a humming bird till he can gather it in his hand.... I kid you not... he will hold it there a few moments and it will be hypnotized. He can then lay it in your hand and it will be a moment or two before it realizes it can go..... amazing. He knows how to live off the desert too.

While clearing underbrush he found and killed two rattle snakes about four or five feet long each. They were females full of eggs. I asked him what he did with them. ""I have them marinating in a bag of Teryaki"" LOL. The skins he stretched to dry on a board. We have California King snakes that keep the rattle snakes in check. A King snake will swallow a rattlesnake whole. But I dont kill any snakes.... They keep the rodent population in check and for the most part as long as you follow simple rules they stay out of your space.

When I used to take walks with my goats.... (what a hoot they are) I would use a six foot walking stick made of closet rod. Good for defending yourself from rambunctuous goats but also good for thumping the ground occasionally. Snakes dont hear but they do feel the vibrations from the thump.... Too big for prey they head for other places.

I have only handled two rattle snakes in my life a youngster just finished with molt sunning itself on a cool day .... RIght inthe front door of my tack shed. I had stepped over the spot three or four times before I finally saw him right in a pile of grooming gear. I found a little bucket and gently put it over the top of the snake. Slid some cardboard underneath flipped the whole thing over and took him down to the dry stream bed where there was a little left over water. Tossed him In some brush with a flick. The other was right here in town on my Grandmas front porch.... I tried to shoo it into a bucket but it was too ****** .... I had to kill it. Four footer with about six or seven buttons.

I have a lot of snakes. The non-venomous I coexist just fine with but the venomous have to die. They are too dangerous to allow to stay around.

Quote: It was a kit that came from a Newhampshire company. Theh weels and shafts were made by the amish. The shafts are two inch square wood that have been steam bent to fit the cart and around the countours of the horse. I did have to cut them to fit her for her lenght as well as finish and drill the holes to affix it to the springs.... The basket was a bunch of sticks with the proper holes drilled in them for uniformity.
The seat was premade as well as all the steel. The instructions said to clean the steel and prime it and paint with automotive paint. Instead I took it to a powder coater and had him do the prep work. I got a deal on that because he could just hang the parts inside a dune buggy he was painting so it only cost me the time it took to clean and prep the parts. Plus he was fascinated by my projcet... LOL>

When I bought it road carts made of hickory were running around 2100 dollars. And they were only available from the Amish. Then shipping was around the same amount. So with this kit I bought it for 1200 and shipping because it was broken down on two pallets and not taking up huge amounts of space only ran about 400

That was the last day I ever drove it.... very long story. Back in 2004. Its been in storage ever since and the dry weather here has shrunk the wood to the point it partially fell off its wheels getting it off the truck. Hard to believe its been ten years. But it was never intended for Road driving like what we have around here its a show cart. The wheels are too big in diameter.... 52 inches. they are in serious need of a wheelwright right now....

so My plan is to disassemble give it a good sanding and a coat of tongue oil. I want to buy smaller wheels going from 52 inches to 48... Possibly a steel wheel conversion.... still thinking on that one. But Its a show cart. and as I will never show her again I want to make it a little more roebust and safer to use.

For instance its a road cart Which is a mans cart for the most part. Too tall to get in easily or out of.... You have to climb over the shafts where the wheel is in the way as well. Since I cant afford to buy another.... I want to convert it to an Easy entry cart. Which means I will have to design shaft supports that come up from the axle With a step just in front of the wheel. No lower than the center line of the wheel.

But I tell you taking it out for a drive is a wonderful way to share my horse with another person. My idea of bringing her up to the desert here was to possibly do carriage service from the train station to the hotel.... Really NOT what it sounds like.... For that I would have to get a people mover large enough to carry at least six people and it would have four wheels. Not going to happen but I did alot of dreaming over it all.

Id be just happy now to take people for photo tours during the spring flower season....

Life is too short to hold back...I've systematically faced down many fears I've had over the years because I am not called to live in a spirit of fear...even of veggies!
big_smile.png
I boogie boarded in the Atlantic, though I'm deathly scared of deep, dark waters=SHARKS. I went white water rafting though I get motion sickness pretty badly...LOVED it! I got honeybees though I hate bees and all they stand for...except honeybees, which I think are wonderfully designed by God. It was very scary to tend them..made my skin crawl. I've grabbed snakes by the tail and killed them for eating my chicks. I went snorkeling in the Caribbean(scared of sharks like nobody's business), flew on a plane though I was ill from it for 5 hrs one way each time, went on a cruise and even on sailboats...with motion sickness like mad. I would love to sky dive or even learn to fly a plane, though my body is now scared of heights. Would love to learn how to surf..sharks or no sharks..I'd do it while I shook like a leaf all the while if I could get this fat body to balance upright on a board.

There are many things I have feared in this life but now I know I need have no fear of any of them, even death, for death has been conquered.

Eat those asparagus...they were really good!

First time I had ever even seen a cooked asparagus, so I had to try it.
Bee you really need to try skydiving! An experience you won't ever forget. I have done it twice!
