The Front Porch Swing

Too funny, Mawmaw to my little boys makes hers about the same way!!!

Momma's almost is like a slaw sauce, a balance of sweet and vinegar, and it has radishes in it!
And I meant to say--- neither one has a "recipe" for it, just add this, add that, taste and adjust. No way to make it just like theirs! I changed Mommas to red potatoes with the skin on… that's what I like :)

Yum. Radishes! I think she probably adds dill seed too. it has a little texture.

Speaking of radishes. Saw a recipe for pickled radishes to can. I may have to try that this summer.

I like to think I am a fairly accomplished cook, but there are few things I can't do as well as my Mom. Macaroni & Cheese, scalloped potatoes and rice pudding are always better on her table. Now, bread pudding, I can pull off pretty well. Sausage gravy is my specialty!

That's how I am. Everything always seem to taste better when my aunt makes those dishes. Macaroni & cheese are my absolute fav! Now sausage gravy, that I can do. My kids love my potato salad. I don't cook these things much any more. Try to eat healthier the older I get! But sometimes, I get a hankerin for good old fashioned food! The kind grandma used to cook! yumm!

Mamaw makes hers like mashed potatoes and then adds mayo, mustard, onion, eggs, and pickles. I just can't ever get it quite right

That's kinda how I make mine. I actually make the mayo, mustard and eggs like for deviled eggs. mash up the potatoes, add chopped onions and celery, pour mayo mix over and stir till well mixed. I occasionally use pickle relish, but they like it without. I may have to make some potatoe salad this week!

Yeah! Go for it.

By the way, how do you get the little emoticons?

Have a question for some of you that might be experienced with a broody.   We have had a broody on the nest for getting close to 4 weeks.  We went out to candle some of her eggs because first of all, she has been out there for a long time, and I don't believe she has been off but once in all that time  We put food and water next to her and I believe she is eating a little. I didn't think she probably had many eggs and not sure they would even be fertile.  But back to the candling. DH picked her up so I could start candling and there were 2 chicks out!!! One was very tiny, tiny head and bobbing around like it was very weak.  I don't think that one will make it.  But there were probably 12-14 eggs under her and I believe there are some rotten, because you could smell them! :sick My question is, should we move her tomorrow with the eggs that haven't hatched, minus the smelly ones? She is not in a good place. By that, I mean she is in the barn in an empty nail bin that is about 6x14x3". It is about 3 feet off the floor, so I don't know how she planned to get them out of there!! :D

newly expierenced broody watcher here. Candle the eggs and take out the stinkers and quitters leave her be. make sure she has food and water. how old are the chicks? I know when I lifted up broody and there was a newly hatched baby it was pretty wobbly. I have read that it takes 3 days to absorb the yolk sack and they don't need food or wwater in that time. I waited two days and picked momma off the nest and showed the chicks water. Momma didn't like it much.
at three feet off the ground I watched mom jump of the coop porch (which is about 3 ft off the ground with 1 to three day olds in tow. The just followed right behind her. Now getting them back in the coop was another story.
