I agree about being new...I know absolutely ZIP about breeding for a specific thing or about breeding at all. The extent of my breeding knowledge could be gathered into a thimble and you still couldn't feel it if you dipped in your pinkie finger. To me it's like mating up socks...that's how basic I am going into this thing. Sometimes that's a big ol' hindrance and sometimes it can be a plus, as I have no preconceived ideas that I'm going to have a champion heritage breed bird at any show or that anyone will be knocking down my door for eggs from my "line".
I call it "country dumb"....we know just enough to get things right sometimes but we really can't tell you how we got there.
That's really all I have to offer to the poultry breeding world.
