The Front Porch Swing

Hey, how come she got a rocking chair and all I got was an upturned ice cream bucket?

We thought it would make for a good story you can tell later...on other porches.

Besides..you should be flattered that we thought your butt would fit neatly and comfortably on an ice cream bucket!

My dad was a bigger honey-eater than Pooh! I can remember him at the table saying this:

I eat my peas with honey
I done it all my life -
It makes the peas taste funny
But it keeps 'em on my knife.

Now I'm sure that needs to be credited to someone, but I don't know who. Teehee

So now let's see - we have Deb and the whirlwind horse, then we have Luvblues theory about her rooster being kicked by a horse. And those little tidbits are supposed to make me feel better about horses because.............................?

Let me start by saying I absolutely adore horses but.......they are the most unpredictable animals. I can not tell you the number of times that I have been seriously hurt by them. I raised Quarter horses for years, from birth to broke, and it was very rewarding. However the last quarter horse I had bucked me off and at my age I don't bounce anymore..... splat is probably a more accurate way to describe it. He was a new horse and I had decided to go out and ride him without telling anyone (stupid) and I knew better but I have been riding for countless years and thought I could handle this horse just fine. My husband came home and found the horse running wildly in the pasture with the saddle on so he came out to see what was going on and found me out cold. Sever head trauma. I was out for 7 hours and woke up in the hospital trying to figure out where I was; shoot I was trying to figure out WHO I was. The next week my loving husband sold all the full size horses on the place and brought home some miniature horses and said "If you feel the urge to ride again without telling someone just help yourself, at least if these buck you can just stand up and be okay". The tallest of these horses is 33 inches, and the stallion is only 29 inches. It's kind of like having big dogs that eat hay. The mares should start foaling in a couple of weeks. The babies weight about 10 lbs at birth.

I climb over the railing, and ask if anybody heard me eavesdropping.

Welcome to the Front Porch Swing! Would you like some sweet tea or may unsweetened? We have a table set up over yonder with all kinds of goodies on it (gluten and non-gluten). Watch out for Jake and Boots. They seem to be enjoying the warm weather!

Lisa :)

So glad you climbed the railing and introduced yourself. We had more rocking chairs made since yesterday so grab up a chair and rock awhile. Help yourself to all the delectable foods and drinks over on the table and tell us about you.

Here ya go.....this will illustrate it perfectly...

Yeah ... none if them is a year old yet ... his spurs haven't developed much and aren't sharp ... and unless he really slips the spurs wouldn't be bearing his weight into her skin like a toenail does.

I HATE to trim toenails. The last time I tried they bled a lot ... I'd taken the tiniest amount off the very point of the nail.

Last year we de-spurred the older Roos. It was an okay process. Ish.

She seems to be in okay shape otherwise. No bare back. Lots of fluffy feathers. Just her skin is torn ... not the meat. I wish I could patch her up properly ...

Try one of those pet trimmer thingys that buzz the nails right off. They're cheap. DD, the pet groomer always had to trim nails on the dogs and someone recommended these. Best purchase ever she said.

I am standing in line for the corn bread, would you all mind if I get a huge glass of sweet whole milk and dunk a few chucks of the corn bread and eat with a tea spoon? I also have a habit of mixing butter and honey at the dinner table.
My grandpa used to mix butter and honey and syrup into peanut butter to put on his toast or whatever he had. Got in a lot of trouble with his doctor!

I like my cornbread under some nice hot chili with shredded cheese sprinkled on top! Yum!

You could try just filing his nails rather than trimming, just sort of make them smoother. But if feathers are gone, say under the wings, not sure this will eliminate the problem but it might help.

Yes, but since nobody here really knows me, I'm okay. "Hi everybody, my name is Caroline."

Yet... we don't know you yet. But we want to. So come on up here, there's plenty of room and lots of nice goodies.

luvblues7, very good decision on the part of the husband! Glad you're ok.
