The Front Porch Swing

I am not Christian either... at best I am Agnostic... I believe all religions fit the needs of the people who follow them. I do have a problem with the Bible for similar reasons. All religions will have the same issues. And its for purely scientific reasons... Translation. as human language has evolved so has some of the meanings of words. Sanskrit to Hebrew to Greek to English (from the dark ages) to King James.... to modern English... Even if the translator's hand was guided by a Divine being. There will be some changes to meaning.

That being said I think the Bible is a beautiful piece of literature. ANd an excellent set of rules to live your life by No matter the translation.

Please dont blast me its not fair. I have a right to my point of view. I rarely voice it.

Everyone has their own meatloaf recipe, and everyone sticks to theirs because they think it's the best way to make it. It's usually the one they grew up with, but in some cases they didn't like the one they grew up with and either developed their own or switched to salads. Doesn't make one meatloaf recipe the only meatloaf recipe - just makes what works for you the right one.

Here is a video of her breathing funny.... I had her out of the cage putting Nustock on the abrasions and she climbed on the bar of a shelf we hadn't gotten hung up, to roost.... Not sure what else to do.... I also had to bring another hen in because she was wet, muddy and missing a bunch of feathers.

Usually all you can do when a hen has internal injuries is to wait....just wait. If she does not improve in a couple of days or seems to be suffering, laboring to breathe, unable to stand~I'd cull. Yes, there is always the chance she could be nursed back to health and many on these forums prove that, but I can only tell you what I would do...and I don't believe in making an animal suffer so I can prove a point on how compassionate or how good a nurse to animals that I am. Suffering is suffering, no matter if it's in a nice, warm house wrapped in a blankie or out on the roost.

Just watch that hen...I can't hear any wheezing, rasping or gurgling when she breathes but she may be filling up with blood in her abdomen which can compress her lungs and slowly smother her. If her breathing becomes more labored, if she gapes her mouth with each breath...I'd kill her.

And I bid adieu to this conversation.  It's been nice, but ultimately, I was venting and now I am free of the stress and anger I felt previously.  I appreciate everyone's kind words and generous advice.  This is one reason I try and make it to the front porch when I have the time.  When I start to feel a weight on my shoulders, you all are the ones lifting it off me and reminding me that I'm as strong as Atlas.  :hugs

No problem. I'm glad you feel better. I know a little (or a lot sometimes) venting makes you feel better- does me anyhow. :)

No blasting from me Deb. :) You're right, you are entitled to your point of view. Go on and voice it, I do. lol

Hello again!
8 ft is pretty high but I can sure recommend at least 6 ft high.  I am beginning to permanently have a stoop from my pen.  It WAS 6 ft but now has sunk to about 5'3 and I am 5'6 sooo but on the other hand my friend Carolyn has no problem...maybe I can talk her into cleaning for me. [hint]
I wanted to tell you all this morning that I am so very happy to have found this place, you are all so sweet and gracious to each other AND to new comers like me.
Such warm welcomes, and I feel like everyone really means it too!!!
Other threads here on BYC are pretty cold and "closed" but not here.
I felt like a stray pup wandering up on your porch while you all were talking and eating and drinking and when you saw me you just handed me a cookie and a drink and loving pat, and boy I am waggin my tail and plan to stay!

Good! New friends, new stories!!

Update on my little cutie, Aliza Grace...she has been jaundiced and they thought they had it under control, she had spent some time under the UV lights but they called about her bloodwork done today and she had to go back to the hospital for more light therapy for a bilirubin level at 18. Her mom is having a hard time with this and also with the fact that Aliza is not getting enough from her breast feeding right now and they have had to supplement her feedings. She's losing weight and having constipation, etc.

I know this little girl is in the hand of God and I don't worry one bit, but if you all could say a prayer for these young parents, I'd appreciate it. They are sort of nervous nellies anyway, so add an orange, little Oompah Loompah baby to the mix and it's really causing them strain.

Um, are you gonna duck first this time, Bee? Or at least sit down and pull your toes up out of the way!! Prayers for you, Aliza Grace, and her worried family.
