The Front Porch Swing

Oh, girls!  The sunset tonight was stunning!  :th   It filled the whole sky and was a light show of peach, pink, orange, yellow, purple and blue and it just got deeper and more beautiful as it sank into the horizon.  I couldn't help but keep praising God for that private showing of His glorious handiwork...and then the whippoorwill started to sing and a turkey let out a final gobble as it went to roost.  It just floors me....God is so good to me!  :love

Well...I no longer have a nest box in my bedroom and that feels good and a little strange~it's only been there since February!  :gig   I built a rooster pen back where I had the cheap meats penned this past fall/winter and Mr. Randy Pants is now ensconced in his own digs.  He didn't like it and escaped straight away.  I reinforced the pen and waited until he went to roost and put him back...he tried to fly out again and hit a wall of netting.  Bee: 1~ The Rock: 0 in that final game.

I put my heating pad back to work up in the brooder to keep the youngin's warm and was pleased to see that they didn't need trained on how to use it...they were all under there when I checked at dusk, except little Don'tgiva Hoot, which had to be assisted into the brooder due to weak legs.  I expect he will die in the night.

Started working in the salad plot and didn't get far...this back is going to be my master this garden season.  Currently sitting with ice on my back and it feels oh, so good!

I hope all you ladies have a blessed Resurrection Day tomorrow and I pray you all feel the joy we should all feel as we remember the day that Death was defeated and we no longer have to fear it.  :celebrate     :weee       I thank the Lord for taking my sin as He died for me, so that I might live.  \0/

Praise The Lord and Amen and Amen !!

I am hoping for a lovely Easter Sunday. It has been raining here for two days. A cold, wet, miserable two days. I am going to go out on a limb and assume that this is our last of the nasty weather.

My chickens will be very glad for warm weather, I am sure!

TTmom,

My SIL hiked up the side of the mountain to visit me when she was overdue. She said she did it to start her labor. It didn't work. .....

Moral? The baby will come when she darn well pleases! We will keep you in our thoughts.

Happy Easter everyone

I am pretty sure that Cowley is one of our city maps, I worked on the Fannie map a couple of weeks ago. These are city maps that we maintain, just line drawings that show streets, street names, hospitals, schools, granges, and such. Some of the "smaller towns" are just insets on the county maps we have also.
I'll have to check the map on Monday, I will definitely make sure the Log Gym is shown. It sounds important for the community. Where is it located?
I can email a PDF or send a printout if you are interested in seeing what we have.
The Log Gym is our community center. It was built in 1936-37, entirely by hand.....some of the logs had to be cut up near Yellowstone and hauled down. It's on the National Register of Historic Places, and it's incredible! We got a grant in 2012 and completely restored it, finishing in 2013. I posted some photos of it a while back, but I can send them again to refresh your memory if you'd like. Be easier than trying to find the page they're on. Stupid, but I can't recall if there is a physical address for the Gym. Here in Cowley nobody uses street addresses - we have no house to house mail delivery so everyone in town goes to the Post Office to get mail. If we aren't home when UPS or FedEx has a delivery, they just take whatever it is to the PO, as long as it doesn't have to be signed for.
If the maps you will be working on Monday show the LDS church and Rocky Mountain Elementary School, the Log Gym is between them. But like I said, I'll see if there's a physical on it.
Thank you, my friend.....I would love to see what you have!
You might want to double check the one you just did a couple of weeks ago. The town you're referring to is Frannie...don't know if that was a typo in the post or if you actually received incorrect information referring to it as "Fannie".
Small world, ain't it?

Sounds absolutely lovely! And Amen! I hope everyone has a Blessed Easter, and feels the peace and tranquility that was our gift.

We had a full day today. Ken put in the exhaust fan and it works great! Then we got the big branch hung in the run - they took to it right away. We also tried to fill the run with leaves as a start on DLM in there, and we didn't have nearly enough. Not sure what we're gonna do there. And the poop board is installed and filled with PDZ. Now if they'd only roost!

Kids and grandkids are coming tomorrow for dinner, a bunny cake that Jenny and Katiebug made today, and an Easter Egg hunt. I feel this aching, intense need to spend as much time with Katie and Kendra as I possibly can.

Better get some stuff done. With all the work on the coop lately, the house has been sadly neglected. Love to all!

Woah, you all were busy today! I can honestly say today has been a hard day and I haven't done much at all! Here's a bit of an unpleasant story and a request, if you all don't mind.

We drove the five hour drive from my hometown to Boerne, TX today, ready to relax before having to head to Austin tomorrow. It was my last whole day with my mom and sisters until next month when I come home for my brother's graduation party, so we were going to do things right.

The plan was to go enjoy the downtown shops on Main Street, but it was quickly cut short by a loud screech, a thud and the horrifying scream of a woman. As I peeked through the window of the quaint shop, a lady ran, screaming and crying.

My mother and other patrons of the shop ran towards the door, tossing their potential purchases to the closest tables. It is so peculiar how even when the adrenaline is beginning to pump into your blood, you still feel a sense of responsibility to not steal.

We ran outside, listening to the screams for an ambulance. Shop owners and passerby had their cell phones out, all dialing 911.

Shoes were strewn across the wide street, a parcel of dripping tissue paper thrown 20 feet away from the body in the road. A truck was stalled in the street in front of a woman who was face down on the blacktop while my mother and others were surrounding the fallen lady, trying to console her friend.

My older sister called my younger sister back from the scene and silently cried whilst we stood watch, waiting for confirmation of an ambulance and for our mother to return. My younger sister walked back to the curb in shock, unblinking.

Mom was a trooper, of course, gathering the fallen woman's purse and presenting it to the paramedics once they arrived. The woman's friend cried into my mother's shoulder, shuddering as she spoke of whether or not her friend would be okay. Last I heard, the woman was breathing, but there was so much damage. She has been hit by a large truck going at least 30 miles an hour. She'd been lifted, pushed, and had rolled across the gravel, receiving scrapes on her face and arms. Her feet were turning purple from the shock. She was struggling to breathe from the impact and her eyes were wide open, unseeing but a small sign that she was alive and conscious.

While I do believe the driver had been speeding (he stuck around afterwards, thank The Lord), I also share this warning with you all.

Don't jaywalk. It's such a stupid thing to warn you about, but we all regret it when this is the consequence. Had she walked a little further down the street, a crosswalk would have been available to her and she may have ended up safe on the other side of the road.

I tell my mother this every time we go to these small towns. "Don't jaywalk, it makes me so nervous," and often times, I get ignored.

"Everyone does it," she says, but has she truly understood the dangers? This woman and her friend will always remember it and will likely never do it again.

My sisters saw something they never should have seen today and I'm sure my younger sister will dream about seeing this woman's shoes and her body in the ground. Heck, I saw something I can't unsee and it already feels like a bad omen for my trip to Austin.

I ask that you all pray for the nameless woman hit by the truck today and please, pray for my mother and sisters so they will not have bad dreams. We can use all the positive thoughts we can get.

Our service is going to be at 9:30 in the morning and then they're going to have something for the kids and then we have 2 invites from family to come for meals around lunch and later on in the day. Don't know IF we'll be able to eat much but being with the family is always nice. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

We are meeting with the boys, the DIL and grandbaby and my sis and her daughter to have lunch together at my fave restaurant tomorrow as well. Usually everyone would come out to our house for a feast but we are celebrating a birthday this week so we took the opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior at the same time. He lives!!! And nothing else really matters on this Earth beyond that, so, yes!, very exciting!

Stay safe on the roads tomorrow, folks.....I love you and hope you all have a wonderfully blessed day. It is clear as a bell out tonight and will be a beautiful day tomorrow...can't wait!

Quote: Laura, prayers for the poor woman and also all who witnessed the accident have been said. That kind of event is traumatic for everyone involved, especially the driver.
I wish all of my friends here on the Porch a happy and blessed Easter.
I am delivering chicks today to my friend who asked me to hatch some for her as a project for her two grandchildren. She has such a full plate. She takes care of a mother with severe dementia, Her oldest daughter just moved home with two young children after leaving a physically abusive relationship. She is blessed to have a very understanding husband, I think she wants these chicks for herself as much as for the kids. She watches me with mine and says it seems very relaxing. Her husband went out yesterday and got a light for the brooder and waterer and feeder. I will give her some food and grit etc. to get her started. Right now the new babies are bouncing off the incubator walls so I should get moving to deliver them,
Have a wonderful day everyone.
