Awwww! I'm glad that chick got up and running!
I'm thinking I might give Bug ... and all the other chicks ... some liver. All kinds of vitamin and mineral imbalances can cause leg problems. Liver has a lot of nutrition and is pretty common chick supplement. And of course FF is awesome.
I think Bug will be okay. S/he is walking around a bit and drinking water today and has pooed a little, which I think is a good sign. S/he has eaten a tiny bit of chick food: scrambled eggs and FF with a little nutri balancer and nutritional yeast ... and seems to be getting stronger and more active as time passes.
I wish Bug had a buddy, but I want all the others to get as normal a start in life as possible. They tucked right into their FF chick food this morning.
The Delaware chicks ... le sigh ... their foster hen is so busy flinging the deep litter everywhere with her scratching that she buries all the food dishes. I don't know that they've eaten any of the chick food. They just dive into each new crater she digs and peck, peck, peck.
I'm still drop-jawed about the Freedom Mutt hatch. That one little hen on 19 eggs ... that I know of! and all but one was fertile and hatched! and only one "late" or "weak" chick!... and we didn't know she was there at all until she appeared with the birds. I've read about this kind of thing before, I just never believed it could happen to us.
I'm particularly pleased with the fertility ... we've got about 20 hens per Roo in the laying flock.
I'm sure the novelty will pass soon enough. But right now we are feeling amazed.
Good, I'm glad he is moving around more. That liver will be good for them. I bet they will inhale it. lol That is a dang good fertility rate.
