The Front Porch Swing

Sort of joining the front porch party a little late. Hopefully not too late.

I come to the front porch from windy Oklahoma. It's been a rough couple of months for me. I live with my Grandparents on my mother's side. I lost my Grandparents on my dad's side just these past couple of months. My Grandma Freda passed away in December from uterine cancer. My Grandpa Cleo passed away in March. He missed my Grandma just too much. Mother's day was hard, as I kept thinking of how wonderful she was to her children and grandchildren, and how I can only hope to be half of the fantastic mother she was one day. Thankfully, I've been joining in hobbies that make me feel closer to them, even though they are gone. My Grandpa always gardened with my Grandma. They were both quite the green thumbs. She quilted and also had chickens. I've stated on one of two quilts, started my first garden (We have our first tomatoes growing!

), and, of course, added a flock of chickens. I feel closer to ever to them now, but I do still catch myself about to call my Grandma on the phone to tell her about things. I am blessed though, I have a wonderful boyfriend, great family, and a great legacy left to me by those who have gone on. Hope it was alright to vent here.

Welcome to the Front Porch! Would you like Sweetened Tea or Unsweetened? All the goodies are over by Miss Bee. Pull up a bucket (watch out for the one that has a turtle under it), rocking chair, or a hay bale. You are even allowed to sit on the railing. Bring your dogs, cats, etc. and let them run with the others. The beautiful Percheron over there is Katee.

You are never too late to join our group. We love stories and pictures. You can vent whenever you want. We have all had our moments.

I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like you have a lot of your grandparents in you. Congratulations on your tomatoes!

What part of Oklahoma are you from? My husband is from Shawnee, OK.

Lisa :)

Hi deb nice to know you I see you have horses too that is a beautiful one you have posted. Yes Roswell is quite the place with all the little green men running around... however, I do plan to take a run up there soon I hope, but not to see the green men, but to see Mine That Bird. Did you see the movie? He lives outside of Roswell?

Welcome Beth, be happy that you have so much today. Look forward to learning about things you care about. I just started chickens myself and am so happy.

Hello all!

Catching up after the weekend. Blooie what a beautiful letter to your daughter, I could hardly read it through the tears. There were other stories that had me teared up as well! Pregnancy hormones don't help either, I don't remember being this emotional with my first two pregnancies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a nice Mother's Day. Most holidays go unnoticed around here, but DH actually helped the kids (they're only 2 and almost 4) put together a card and made me feel special this year!

Here's hoping everyone has beautiful weather today! Off to do some more gardening!

LOL... we lived in Roswell in the Very Early sixties... Like 60-64 or thereabouts. Never heard of that ailen stuff. Nor did we hear about anything about area 51 when my dad worked there. Dad was part of a design team that built several missile silos in New Mexico. Then when we moved to Vegas he worked for EG&G which was the primary contractor for people to work in the Atomic test sites and Area 51. Dad was one of the ones that rode the bus with the blacked out windows. But you know he always talked about going out to Jackass Flats. He had a Secret clearance too. So some of that stuff he NEVER talked about.

He always had a spare room converted to a laboratory.... In Roswell he was inventing boats and using materials un heard of at the time.... Then when we moved to Las Vegas his home experiments moved to electronics and endless prototypes for perpetual motion machines.... Then one time while we were watching TV Mom had her cigarette in an ashtray just making lazy strips of smoke floating up.... Dad focused in on that and he said just offhandedly.... "you know there is enough energy in those little wisps of smoke to Power a car..... "

Mine That Bird.... ?

My Mothers Day was good. Ours is a small family. Grandma born in 1916, Mom born in 1934, Me born in 1955, My Son born in 1989. My Dad passed in 1999, My Grandpa passed in 2000. I never married.

Usually I get only a card from my son which was fine.... But that morning he announced that he had forgotten... So he went with me to moms house to pick mom up for the day. She haddnt gotten cards yet either... So I told My son he needed to get cards too... I was thinking of mom and grandma. He begrudgingly went in to Walgreens with mom. Ats my Boy... All 24 years old of him.

So with Grandma 97 and Mom 80, going out to eat is a logistical nightmare. It was up to me to cook dinner. As I always do now... So Mom requested Steaks and Grandma whole heartedly agreed. So Steaks, Baked Potatoes (microwaved sooo simple) and a big salad. All incredibly easy to do.

Mom has to have hers well done, Grandma likes medium, and My son will eat only low fat, and I love mine hot but rare. Dang I did my best but when the complaints came in Moms was too bloody Grandmas was too tough.... My son Admonished them to the fact that I was the one that did all the work of cooking.... in unison they said thankyou and traded steaks. Bwhaahahaha.

After My son Took mom home for me I went to take my afternoon nap. I have to lay down for a couple of hours in the afternoon to let the swelling go out of my lower legs. I dont do dishes till after my nap sometimes not till late at night.

So later on that evening I was playing a game on the computer.... My back is to the diningroom and kitchen. The whole room is about 16 x 14 and we have two computer stations and a TV worked in as well. So I am sitting there and I hear Scrape Scrape.... Chink Chink. I turn and my son isnt at his computer.....

I asked without moving from my game.... "Whatcha doing in there???"
He askde back... "How much do you clean off the dish before putting it in the dishwasher....?"
Hmmm I thought... hoped...."just the big bits I only rinse sticky stuff off...." I turned around and he was loading the dishwasher....

OH my GAWD.... He has NEVER done this. He was handling each dish with thumb and forefinger.... and wiping them off with paper towels.... He finally said... "happy Mothers day mom..."

Mr Clean freak had to dig down deep in order to accomplish this.... How he was ever spawned by me I will never know.... But it was a wonderful Mothers day gift to be sure.
