Here's a front porch in my state...they have these get togethers all around the state.....

Well in general Libya is a moderate country. As a whole unlike other countries they are all one faith but a few branches which until the revolution were kept punched down. Now they have equality and some are causing problems but its more propaganda than truth. Lots of Christians here many wives of men here are from other countries. There may not be a church but no one stops them from practicing their faith since TRUE Islam recognises both books the bible and torah. Past two years we had christmas trees for sale again. Before the last idiot ruled Libya was very progressive and they had everything, buses, trains, cinemas, short dresses even! But he made the people fear all this. Blamed every ill on western lifestyles. 42 yrs youve got 3 generation of folks trying to undo the harm. Funny how he condemned the west but when they opened the doors to his home there were worse horrors among his toys of torture. Wont go into it but you can read online and I think there was a new documentary on him and his family recently. I dont support even mentioning his name.
But he left this country in squalid conditions. In a population of just over 6 million and BILLIONS in oil revenues every day they make enough money for every single person to be millionaires for life. BUT thats not the reality. If youve seen images of most countries in this region you see the level of life here. People hid their money, refused to fix up or buy something in fear that anyone could take it away from you. There was places where if you stopped for a moment too long or God forbid your car broke down you could be arrested, beaten and sometimes killed just in the name of his power of safety. There are horror stories that are yet to be told, that make Hitler look good. Now the country has 1/2 of its population under age 35, and they have tasted freedom and there is concern about what type of lifestyle will emerge. Everything was controlled! If you had something and someone wanted it they took it. Its been like watching a new world emerge. I liken it to Time Machine, we have a people who have a chance at a better world after the morlocks have controlled them but what do you teach them?
So there isnt much in way of community groups, activists are new and womens rights are defined by each family pretty much. I got some old folks to deal with and their children have all been raised with their abuse and just say soon enough they are gone deal with it. But I will not subject myself or my kids too this and then when we stay away from them we are not being dutiful! ****** if you do or dont. My fil is 94 my mil is 76. They dont have many years left. Im concerned more with finding good partners for my kids and seeing that they will not be mistreated. Like school, every young woman goes to college here its free. But then soon as they are done they get married and well babies follow. I asked why do you put so much into females going to college just to deny them to work in those fields? They said we only need them smart enough to help their kids in school! They dont need jobs if they are married!
Its not right or wrong and much of what people see on tv is made to keep us not trusting one another. At the end of the day they want the same things, live life, provide for families and have education and hope for their kids to have better lives.
But I have also seen how media and groups of people make things appear to be worse than it is. Like now they report that 100 us marines are being moved to Italy to prepare for evacuation of us citizens they say things are getting worse. But most folks here dont see it. Yes we get the big scary Alqueida you know the mad bombers. Well most folks here font tolerate them but media makes it sound like we are another Afghanistan or Iran. Nope the youth will not let that happen. There are cities where things are more strict my city is considered one but im happy here, we are safe and secure and we are minutes outside of the Capitol. I dont know what lies ahead for this country but think back to our revolution in the usa our civil war, where we much different? How many years did it take to have equality? I remember segregated buses. Its not overnight, its a slow painful process to create a country where everyone is equal. No country really has accomplished equality. But as long as faith shapes a country im happy that they head in the right direction.

Made chicken pockets yesterday, a recipe that I have used many times. Just the standard crescent roll with a chicken filling. Recipe called for cream cheese, chopped chicken, onions and butter. I added dehydrated tomatoes, chopped fresh spinach and a touch of garlic. They turned out delish!
Recipes are a starting point, no telling where they will lead to.

Almost out of dehydrated tomatoes. Can't wait to move to WI and get some good, home grown tomatoes from the farm stands. No garden for me this year.

On the garden note, DH tells me there is a lot of landscaping around the new place that is starting to grow now that spring has finally showed up. Daffodils are blooming. I asked for pictures, we'll see if I get any.

Why not do a few 5 gallon buckets of tomatoes and whatever.

Oh, my! Prayers silently speeding your way for a speedy recovery! As foreign as it might sound on a chicken web site, I sure hope I don't end up with so many eggs that I have to find ways to use up surplus!

Fastest way to understand why would be to read my blog.. www.oldmommaskids.blogspot.com next to that well after 32 yrs my husband was finally able to return to his country and family. But he had to return to the usa to finish arrangements there like shipping our stuff and turning our house over to our son so he has a place while he is in college. Just caught up with news and apparently the president of the GNC and 7 other members have been taken hostage in a short battle today just in the past hour. Who and why is all rumors but most feel that the group was causing many of the problems the country has faced since the war ended. Im about 10 miles from where this happened but its quiet where we live and has been since the war ended in 2012. If problems arise I cant do anything, the embassy moved near the airport and there would be many dangers trying to get there. Many americans live here and only a few left during the war. Those that had money and connections. I have my faith in God its all I need.

The musicians are expressionless - just dead-pan. I love the music, laugh at the total zero energy of those making it except the woman playing the spoons. She at least has a smile. Reminds me of the family of hill-billies from the Andy Griffith show.
