The Front Porch Swing

I have had the most devastating news this morning. My youngest daughter is three months along in pregnancy. Her ultra sound done yesterday shows the baby is alive with normal development; however the child has no brain.....

It is hard to see the keyboard while crying uncontrolably.

Please pray for her......her name is Brandi......she is going to be faced with some horrible decisions in her near future.

Oh, honey! I'm crying and praying for you and your family right now and will throughout the day. There really are no words I can offer other than those of the Lord and right now I'm sure it's hard to even comprehend the truth of them as we cannot see just HOW this can all work out for the good....our minds are not capable of understanding these things in the midst of our grief. With this promise in mind and the other promises He has made to give us a good future and to prosper our lives, we can rest on His unchanging grace and wisdom and take comfort that God holds that little one in His hands as He does all your family and that's the safest place to be in this world.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I love you, Enola. If I could take this from you I would most assuredly do so and carry it for you from now on. I wish I could. Since I cannot I will turn it over to my Father and He will carry it instead.

Ooo polka. Only in Wisconsin do you learn to polka in Elementary, Middle, and High School!!

Great story Bee! Loved it!!

Got a sad call today, one that kinda throws a kink in our current plans and hits the Fast Forward button on others. It was always in the plans that if my horse was still kick'n that he would come live here with us. Right now he lives about an hour and a half away on my FIL farm with another horse and 45 acres to.. be a horse. His companion is old for a horse, at least 33 years old. This past year has been rough for him, he has almost no teeth left and keeping weight on him takes a lot of time and even more money. Supplements supplements supplements. Anyhow, we were in no rush to get him(my horse) here because General (FIL horse) is old and we would not separate them. If General were younger we would have taken them both. General has taken a huge turn for the worse and it is only a matter of time before a decision is made. I know this is rough for my FIL. He lost his old mare 2 years ago. She was special. She was the one all of his children learned to ride on. It was hard watching him say good-bye and telling her she did her job, she raised the kids. Now, General has been with him for at least 25 years. Just sad.

Fencing needs to be done. Decisions need to be made on where that fencing needs to go. Ideally we would have time to finish clearing the Virginia Pines in the back and getting good pasture growing. We have 7 pines on the ground now that need to be split and stacked. The front property is split in two sections. One larger side, big enough for a horse and maybe a small companion, and the other side which the orchard occupies. The larger side would be the ideal place at this point in time. Currently mowed, 3-ish acres, park like setting. Pretty really. No more mowing… except for the weeds and things a picky horse will avoid. Sounds good, right? Well… the 9 maple trees really make that one not so shiny. Maple trees, specifically red maple trees, are poisonous to horses. :th Much work to be done. I think we will keep him where he is at until fall.

In other news, the blackberries are blooming and peach trees have tiny peaches on them!! Need to get a good recipe for cobbler!!! Gotta get the ice-cream maker out! Have a great night, everyone!

Aren't the maple leaves just poisonous in the autumn when they turn red? I've got maples lining the horse pasture and I notice they never eat the fallen leaves.

I am so very sorry. What terrible news.

Bruce,

Your stair railing turned out fantastic! That place is going to be really top-notch when you are done with the remodel. You are quite the craftsman!
Sorry the kiddos are not up to the adventure of living in a house under construction. And sorry to hear about the water heater going out at the other place. Home ownership can really be a drag at times. Sometimes it would be nice to be able to call up the landlord and say fix it.
Glad your trip to Beloit and back was uneventful.

My hubby gave me some great news on the house. He removed the upstairs trim for the stairs to take a look at what we got going on.
1. The trim is a high quality pine that is stained to look like the mahogany down stairs. So all I need to do is figure out how to duplicate that staining technique and we can save some money by using top grade pine for trim instead of using mahogany. It will make it easier to recreate that trim also. Yeh! I was kinda suspicious that it was pine, just because all the upstairs was finished in pine. You know, use the expensive stuff for show in the main area and use the pine for the no-ones-going-to-see-it-but-family areas.
2. The floor joists are running parallel to the stairs, so cutting into that area to give more headroom will only be affecting the tiny area of floor in the closet that is over the stairs. We will just make a built in shelf unit over that area where the floor is going to be adjusted.

He had seen online a system for a DIY low-expansion foam that you can blow into existing walls to insulate. Do you know anything about this? According to him, this works well for existing plaster and lathe walls. Just a couple of small drilled holes for inserting the tube and it will fill in throughout the existing bat insulation.

Oh Bee, that story was hilarious! Made my morning after a long day yesterday. Far as I can tell Tripoli is quiet and people will be waking up soon enough. 2 people died and think around 50 injuries. My fil was taken 2x to the local hospital last night and most of the family was sitting downstairs on death watch. Hes 97 so any day God sees fit will be his last. Wish my husband was here but knowing he got to see his father again help easy my heart. Money came finally now I need to go take it out over a few days cause I dont trust banks. When you need your money they got rules but when they need from you its another story. But its my morning and youve lightened my heart. Take care all.
Glad to hear that the political situation is settling down some and you are OK. I had to search the internet news to find the story about what is going on.

Sorry to hear about your FIL, it must be hard to be there without your husband. He is in my prayers.

Lost one of my white rock pullets this morning, almost 8 wks old. Something got in my Fort Knox and killed only her. Strange. The only area that is available is a 2" strip by the door. Going to replace door. Hummmmmm
