We wanna see when you get them painted.....and for crying out loud give those broodies some extra goodies! Talk about going over and above the call of duty!![]()
Oh yeah, those little broodies are getting treated like little queens for their work in the Cotton Patch Goose Project, but I have a feeling they wouldn't have quit no matter what I did. They've been forcing each other into the same nests for days, making it hard for other hens to lay in the nesting boxes.
I even have another game hen hiding out in Mom's flower pot with 7 eggs. I'm tempted to put some other eggs under her, but I love my game mixes. They lay really well and are pretty tame considering how awful their mothers are.
This year, I have great roosters (a beautiful EE and my Black Australorp, Jorge/George) and I'm hoping I get some beautiful chicks with their features. My little EE pullets will eventually start laying eggs and once they start breeding, I'll be set!

Can you tell I'm excited? I already have potential people who want some chicks and while I'm not basing my future success on whether these eggs hatch or not, I feel like I'm on the right track. In a year, we've tripled our egg production and hopefully the good fortune will continue. God has really blessed us this year and I'm thinking that this is definitely something I want to continue in the future.
Now if only I can learn to cull roosters on my own. Dad is tired of me just giving roosters away, haha!
