The Front Porch Swing

I almost forgot to show you this picture I took this morning of Katie. Why can't I wake up like this? She's such a morning person - wakes up smiling and ready for the day. She's been sleeping in the living room while Jenny is in Denver. I walked past her this morning just after she woke up and she said, "G'morning, Gramma!" When I saw how she looked, and that smile, I grabbed my iPad and snapped this. She is the doggone cutest little booger, and that HAIR! Looks great on the pillow - not much fun to comb out every day. The back of it forms natural dreadlocks every night which have to be combed out every morning. UGH! But this was taken before she even got up -

Good news on Kendra!

Blooie, Katie is a beautiful girl! What a smile!

I am happy you didn't hurt yourself any worse. You do not need a concussion while on a cruise. Groan, thinking of the swaying motions. UGH

Deb, I love your tenacity! You do what you gotta do.

You do have a way with words--great story.

Have I told you I am in love with Katee? What a gorgeous horse.

Lisa :)

It took about a week to really notice and they have to take it everyday but it has really helped him be able to calm himself easier. I was totally skeptical but it has worked for us. I'm also looking into oils for hard days where he gets extra wound up! (And me to) I have a good friend who swears by them and just puts lavender in a humidifier. I feel the same way about the stigma. I don't want my son labled "bad" because he's high energy. It will be good later in life. When he's older he will be able to control the energy better, but now it's just a lot! The up side is we can hike for hours and he will just keep going :)

Oh and around here we have charter schools and other options. Kids aren't really ment to sit still in a class all day! A little crazy when you think about it. There might be a better schooling option for him out there. Im thinking about a charter school up here that's really well rated ad the kids test and do really well, but not the typical "sit still and learn this" thing.

*side note, not downing teachers at all! That's an extremely hard job! Especially when you have 20+ kids to 1 teacher! Just saying we dot all learn the same and sometimes there are learning options that fit better for one person then another. I learn by doing instead of being showen.

Alice, have you considered homeschooling your children?

Lisa :)

Charter schools are done part from home, so I guess that's a yes. But they still go to class a few days a week and have the teachers and class mates. I'm not trying to undervalue the job of a teacher at all! Most do an amazing job, just hard or a one size fits all program to help every kid. My son does preschool three days a week more for social reasons, so that's why I made the suggestion to look into charter schools. That way a kid can do chores, help dad build a fence, go for a hike, do there work and still go to class three days a week.

What a bummer!!! I said I might not be getting the 20 CX's from Baton Rouge because the lady that's bringing them to me lost her ride. But the order never arrived and Christina kept asking the hatching company where is it? Finally, today 125 arrived all dead and decomposing. 51 are barely alive and probably won't make it. So stinking sad. I feel so bad for Christina that I could cry. I can get chickens anytime but what a disaster for her. Praying for her.

sad.. had they shipped to the wrong address or what took them so long to arrive? A hug for your friend

Forget the stigma. If he needs help, he needs help. Sounds like ADHD. The H is hyperactivity. It doesn't mean he is subnormal it just means he is ACTIVE. And yes, I am a great proponent for Medicaid. Glad you could get on it. I was paying $150 a month for medication and now I pay $32. It's part of the Medicare part D. But by having Medicaid I don't have to pay the extra $40 something premiums. And Dr and Hospital visits are free. I don't need them often, usually just to get my meds refilled but helps out.

It his mom that would take the diagnosis and run with it.

She's got some issues.... She's been telling us the kid is bipolar, has diabetis, ADD, ADHD etc. etc. We get calls every other weekend that something is wrong with him. Ear infection, stomach virus, black eye... She's called CPS on us before. Tried to claim I abused him. He's seeing a councelor who keeps tabs on things, she testified that there is NO sign of abuse. When he liuved with her she'd take him to the pediatrician every other week. It's not malicious on her part, she truly has attention deficit disorder (which also means she feels a constant urge to receive attention). She's told us with a straight face that she has brain cancer.. and she was born in puerto rico.. and she had her legs stretched as a kid etc. etc. etc. My ex-husband dated her in high school a year before we became an item (LOOONG story), so I'm familiar with her antics.

My step-son is doing much better. He started the school year receiving yellow and red smilies on his behavior chart several times a week, toward the end of the year he actually had mostly green smilies with the occasional yellow and rarely a red. Being in a stable home really helps him. He loves being a big brother and a helper, so calling on that urge helps to center him. His councelor says he has ADD tendancies, but not enough to warrant medication yet. He's going to first grade after the summer, we'll see how it goes.

He does talk A LOT. And it's about nothing and everything.. and everything gets spun around so it's about him

Wild tales... just like his momma. I just hope we can teach him the difference between truth and fiction as he gets older.

I sometimes really wonder if we should be shipping chicks.... that's just a terrible way to die.

She report on LaPeepyers thread that the company is giving her a full refund. She told the saleslady that was helping her that she was not ordering again. and the lady replied" I wouldn't either." She's trying to save the 50 left but not much hope.

X2 on that. That's very sad news. Keep us posted on the ones that are alive. I hope they make it

Quote: Thank you Shes living the life of a queen with doting servents... LOL. I need to find her a Roomie though for company.
She just turned 20. Her running me over was kind of a last straw for her... and me. After the wreck I was afraid of her on the ground for a couple of years. I worked through it though by taking her and me back to her trainer Julie. I am still not the best on the ground but get me up into the cart and I am a happy camper.

I couldnt afford full training which would have been almost 400 dollars a month on top of board which was about the same. So once we got to the point where I could hitch her myself again I moved her to a closer boarding stable. I was working in San diego at the time. At first we were doing OK but I reallly hated having her just in a 24 x 24 corral. Top it off with the fact that the stable was in a low lying area that was known for having those little flies that pester their ears and tummys.

She developed Allergies to the things and they were eating up her tummy. The vet said it was autoimmune And prescribed a Boatload of stuff for her. Which included a Big Bucket of Horse Benedryl.... LOL. I just figured It would be better to move her out. So when I got layed off at work that would be the best idea to move her home.

So home she went. To her Big Corral and her goats and Guineas and Chickens. I actually treated her with a double dose of Ivermectin then again in ten days... The vet was an idiot. Those little bugs not only chewed on her tender spots they layed eggs and little larva continued the damage. Sweet itch. So the Ivermectin did the little buggers in. shes still an itch girl but no more than she was when I first got her.
