The Front Porch Swing

he came back dead on his feet. couldnt sleep. He had wandered the little library in the dorm. Books written in the 1800s interesting little tid bits. both of us love the history of science as well.... I was wrong The Telescope is a 40 inch and only takes photograps and records light data. Dean said Justin took about 80 4 minute exposures. They had some trouble with tracking on the scope so Dean spent his time looking at some sort of Focus graph and calling out times to adjust the telescope.

It boiled down to a Grad student who needed one person who was more experienced with the telescope than him. Dean and Matt were available and willing so they would do, but neither had EVER worked the telescope... BTW Dean says that Justin even though hes a grad student is in his middle thirties. So they got the shots in kind of a fractured flickers style....

Seriously, what can I say, I'll say it again, this is massively important field work

Jmoeller can I bookmark you for some later conversations? One of my research projects is the life of Robert Susand, a fugitive slave who escaped to Canada, raised a family of ten kids, wrote poetry, ran a barbershop, but later in life, maybe 1960? Died. His wife and two oldest sons moved to Green Bay Michigan and must be buried in a local cemetery.

Sure. I love history. Do you mean Green Bay Wisconsin or Green Bay Michigan?

Car pool opportunities!

That's what I thought too..
For those of you who prayed for me and my job interview, I want you to know that all our prayers were answered. I was offered a 3rd grade position at a school in Katy isd and I'm thrilled. Thank you guys!!

Congrats, praying that you will love your new job and be a blessing to those little cuties.
YAY ESSIE!! I hope you love that new job and I hope God blesses you with good people to work with.

Thank you, it's my prayer too..
I feel the same way. I'm feeling especially distant from my only daughter, like she just can't be bothered with us. It makes me very sad. It seems like a lot of kids her age ( at 25 not really a kid though) have the same attitude that Becky has, so I don't think it is anything unique to her or how she was raised. I don't know. I was the oldest of 5 and my
Dad made it perfectly clear that family came first, and you don't have to like it, but you drop everything and come running when one of your own needs you. Not so much with this next generation.
Makes me sad that I wasn't able to keep that alive in my kids, like I some how disappointed my Dad by not passing it on.

all we can do is teach our children what we were taught and pray that they will see the importance of family and value it, if they do not at least we did our part and cannot blame ourselves.

Lots happening on the front porch today. I bring apple torte still warm from the oven with homemade vanilla ice cream. I was dying for something sweet so I popped open a jar of canned apple pie filling I made last year. Goodness on a spoon.

Congrats on the new jobs - one in a hospital and one as a teacher. Wish you both the best in your new positions.

I believe it is Green Bay, WI. I did a google search and can't find a Green Bay, Michigan- only the Green Bay of Lake Michigan. I could be wrong though.

jmoeller - I am looking for an engineering technician or a design technician position. And thank you for offering to keep your ears open. DH is an engineer, so he has some co-workers looking also. It will come, it is just taking too long for DH. He is not very patient. I like your front porch, I can see a similarity to our new one. Ours just has a door and windows added..

Deb - your son's work with the telescope sounds pretty cool, boring because it takes so long to get the data, but cool in the implications. I hope he finds a new planet.

oldmomma - you are in my prayers ... I pray for the safety of your family and that your husband gets well and can join you. I pray for peace in your county, tolerance is hard for some to learn. It breaks my heart to hear of the atrocities of war. Stay strong, you know you have the support of the front porch sitters.

Sounds like things have been going good in your people world. So glad your Mom is doing better. What a nice plan for making the + size dresses. I wish the fashion world would get with the program and realize that we're not all anorexic. Nice to have dogs that can deal with rodents. When i had a terrier, she was a better mouser than my cats are. And refinishing/reupholstering that furniture sounds like a fun project. I did some furniture in high school: stripped a few tables and refinished, re-upholstered a funky rocking chair. Later did a couch and chair.
I think the fashion industry is incredibly jaded (loads of designers refuse to even acknowledge average sized women because they are not considered high end models for their clothing). What they don't realize, however, is that the market resides with "plus size" women. Do you know what I would pay for a perfect pair of jeans that will last? I'd probably pay a hundred bucks or more for a sturdy pair of everyday jeans.

I never went to prom, so I never needed a dress that was perfect. At most, I wore an appropriate dress for the Military Ball that I had to attend when I was in Air Force Junior ROTC. I can't imagine how desperate or frustrated a plus size girl would feel if she couldn't find a prom dress that fit her that wouldn't cost her an arm and a leg to purchase. Heck, I'm pretty sure their mothers and fathers would be just as frustrated because they can't give their daughters something that is considered a rite of passage.

My dogs just killed a big rat this morning. I was pretty surprised when Rosie, the older terrier, actually managed to fit herself underneath the lawn mower and scared out a rat. Sandy stunned it and Rosie killed it. I wish my cats were good at catching rodents, but I don't think they have the drive. The dogs work as a pack, one scaring out the prey and the others surrounding the area to catch any escapees. It seems to be working for them!

Dad wasn't very excited to hear about us venturing into reupholstering, but we have the time and the drive, so it's going to happen either way. I, on the other hand, am excited to get to work.

Please forgive me for not remembering... Are you looking for a position in Wyoming? What you describe is pretty much what I am wanting.... I am hoping to get new software soon. A friend is supposed to be sending me a current copy ... AutoCad and SolidWorks.

For what its worth in the ninetys I was able to pay my mortgage for a year working out of the house WAY before internet existed. Just doing Drawing Transcriptions to Autocad. Also doing a little bit of form fit and function checking. I was chatting with a Pipe corral delivery guy just a couple of months ago... come to find out he was not only the delivery guy he was also a partner in a family owned company. He also does the designs for their pipe corrals. I am just saying this because a niche can be found in just about any industry.

PLEASE never ever discount the people you talk to because just by looking you cant necessarily know their power.... Networking is probably the most powerful tool to find a job. I asked him if his company ever hired designers for piecework. He said no and it sparked his interest in me.... then he told me straight drawing conversion is now being done through software. Scan the drawing in and the software converts it to CAD. My experience with stuff like that tells me thats NOT the end of the story.

Once I find out if I have CAD software I am placing an ad in Craigslist for drawing conversions and indicating other stuff I can do.

But back to where you live... or are wanting to work.... I dont need to know details but if you can give me an idea of the Area I can do a little digging and send you some resources...

Working out of the house has its own issues... I hope to set up a designated space here... Which means a lawn shed out in the back yard. But it really needs to be a space where You can don your worker bee hat.
