Finally got the good news that all the home inspections are in and the buyers are not going to ask for any repairs. I will be moving in with my husband at the end of the month!!

Blooie, has your chicken with the egg laying issue straightened itself out? anymore soft shells?
Any recommendations for dealing with an English Setter and spear grass? only one spear got past my nightly inspections so far to cause an infection but I got it cleared up right away.
Hope Ken is recovering well.

Not Blooie here but Soft shell gal had an episode of laying two per day for a couple of days and finally layed a normal egg.
Are you talking about fox tails? Here they are a constant nuisance.... One thing that helps in the yard is mowing before they develop mature heads.

There are herbacides That work on grasses and leave broad leaves alone and there are herbacides that kill broad leaves alone but there is nothing for Foxtails. The only defense is a very thorough examination.

here is a good discussion on inspection maybe it has something more to help you.... Sadly this is why I wont have a dog with a heavy coat of hair.

What is fox tail?

I cooked my first pullet egg today. It was a tiny little thing, and a double yolker! Bless her little heart, at least she's trying. So, of the new girls, I think one of the BSL has laid 2 eggs (skipped a day) and so far, one egg from the pioneer.

Fox Tail is a seed that is made by certain grasses.... They have a spear like point and hairs or barbs that wont let it back out. Designed to distribute the seeds in the coats of animals. Unfortunately those seeds or Fox Tails (what they are called in California) can get into eyes ears and little folds where the dog cant get them out...

when these dry and come off into the coats of animals they look like this

They also can cause problems for horses getting caught between tooth and gum...
