The Front Porch Swing

Actually no tumble weeds. They like cultivated or previously cultivated land. For what its worth Tumble weeds are not indigenous to the US. They came in with a wheat shipment from Russia... I believe some time in the 1870's Many people here don/t know they are called the Russian Thistle. Here is another shot of my land from the road. If you knew there was a house there you still wouldnt see it. My house is above and to the left hand corner of this picture. The rocky mound in the background partially belongs to an eight acre parcel owned by a husband and wife college professors. Some of those boulders have shed their undersides to make shelters deep enough to hide about twenty people. deb
Deb, that place is beautiful!

Howdy ya'll :frow

Been about a month since I was last on the porch. Thought I would drop by to say hello :)

Hope ya'll have been enjoying the summer and that your weather has been wonderful. Things here in Nova Scotia are going well and the summer weather has been great ! It has been a busy one and still showing no signs of slowing down just yet.

Been missing ya'll and thinking about each and everyone of you. God Bless :)

Yesterday was a great day here at Oleo Acres. Our special friends from Riverton (4 hours away) came up to celebrate Kendra's and Sophia's third birthdays. The girls were born just a couple of weeks apart and both had surgery shortly after they were born - Kendra to close the hole in her back and Sophia had open heart surgery. She has hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has already had 3 operations and repeated angiograms and angioplasties. She will have another phase of coronary surgery in the spring. All of this is to keep her alive and thriving until she's old enough for a heart transplant. She's a little stinker - she can outplay and out-ornery her big brother anytime! Anyway, our families met and became close friends when we were all living at the Ronald MacDonald house in Denver waiting for the girls to be born and have their operations. We vowed that they would spend as many birthdays together as we could manage. Their first birthdays they came up here, their second birthdays we went down to Riverton, and their third birthdays were here again. The "host" family always buys the girls look-alike outfits. These are our miracles:

Sophia and Kendra - first birthdays

And their second birthdays

Third birthdays!

And this photo means the world to me - it's the first time ever Kendra was able to stand next to Sophia and play. Amazing!

Aww, Blooie

I bet those girls will be breaking boys' hearts in no time.

What precious miracles you all have in your lives. Happy birthday to Kendra and Sophia!

Yesterday we had our evaluation at Easter Seals. We'll be starting speech therapy with them next week. So soon we'll be having speech therapy three times a week! They also recommended an evaluation for occupational therapy, so we're doing that the week after labor day. So soon we'll have OT therapy too.

Then today I finally got the paperwork to release medical information to the Sparks clinic for a VERY thorough assessment, it's like an 8 hour assessment spread throughout a day. I mailed that back, called to be put on the cancellations list (if someone cancels, they can call me). It could be several months if people don't cancel, and ASAP is what we want/need!

*phew* seems the train is getting in motion and soon to be going really, REALLY fast.

Oh, and Milly had her 4 month check up. Doing well, 14 lb 7 oz, 24 1/2 inch tall. Had a bunch of shots, but she was a trooper, only mad for a little bit.

Wow that sounds stressful, but so happy that you got so much done/taken care of. Will keep my fingers crossed you get a call soon from a cancelation! And yay Milly for doing such a wonderful job with shots!
