The Front Porch Swing

Misty Mountain, yes I posted an apple butter recipe last fall. I am about to pull it out today as I also have ugly apples that I need to process. I will post it again tonight. I was at "The Old Bat's" birthday party Saturday and didn't get in much forum time this weekend..

Love that you get to visit the "Old Bat" and her family. They are such good people that we miss them on here.

I have no doubt she is a fine person and a loving mother, that is reason enough not to call her an "Old Bat!" I know there is nothing but playfulness behind it. I admit, I have heard others referring to moms with such loving nicknames as "Old Goat," "Swamp Witch," and "Fat Cow," but there is not enough love in the world to make me okay with any of those nicknames, and none of my kids better try it. My middle son said (with a wicked grin) that his kids would be calling me "Big Momma." I said, "Not if they want Christmas presents."

Wisher, in spite of my previous statement, I agree with your sentiment, but to each his own, and it seems to work for them. The only one I will freely insult is my hubby. That, only when he's clearly begging for it!!

I have caught myself doing that with my DH, but I am trying to stop it. I know how it feels when he takes jabs at me or the kids in the name of "only joking" and I don't like it. I am just preaching to myself here, not passing judgment.

Bee's mom, Mary, is fine with her knickname. She just turned 80 and still climbs roofs and did an amazing job of painting the house for the party! She is my idol. Bee is also a bundle of energy. They have a very beautiful relationship. Misty: Here is my apple butter recipe I like it because it can cook while I sleep.

CROCK POT APPLE BUTTER
Approximately 3 pounds apples
3 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cloves
dash of salt
3/4 up water or apple cider

Fill crockpot 3/4 full of peeled, cored and cut up apples.
add spices and evenly mix. pour in liquid and stir.
Cook 8 hours or overnight, covered on low.
It should be a thick spreadable texture.I f it is too thin cook it for awhile longer with no lid.
It can be stored in the refrigerator for up t
to 6 weeks, frozen, or pack in hot jars, leaving 1/4 " headspace and process in a hot water bath for 10 minutes.
I better get up off my chair and start peeling apples. I would like to have a jar done for a friend when we go out to dinner tomorrow.
