Only trouble is they are all adults and will not eat or drink anything that has a twang like kefir. I had to promise her I would not try and spring in my own culled chickens for the grocery store ones. They are deadly serious about this. I can't deviate. So a garden it is. I'm getting a pressure canner for Christmas from my oldest DD and beyond thrilled. I have decided to simplify things and buy bags of potting soil and lay them down as gro bags. I have a book that gives me a lot of ways to do it easy for my aching back. And Larry Hall has a kitty pool with Walmart bags with potting soil in an inch of water. This will keep the ants out and allow me to grow a bunch of stuff without all the tilling and such.Key: don't tell them what they're eating/drinking.
I make kefir with lemon, I tell them it's lemonade. No one bothers about it. I made "hamburgers" and my kids ate them up.. they were lentil patties. How would they know it's a homegrown chicken if it's out the freezer? You can't really tell.
