The Front Porch Swing

Key: don't tell them what they're eating/drinking.

I make kefir with lemon, I tell them it's lemonade. No one bothers about it. I made "hamburgers" and my kids ate them up.. they were lentil patties. How would they know it's a homegrown chicken if it's out the freezer? You can't really tell.
Only trouble is they are all adults and will not eat or drink anything that has a twang like kefir. I had to promise her I would not try and spring in my own culled chickens for the grocery store ones. They are deadly serious about this. I can't deviate. So a garden it is. I'm getting a pressure canner for Christmas from my oldest DD and beyond thrilled. I have decided to simplify things and buy bags of potting soil and lay them down as gro bags. I have a book that gives me a lot of ways to do it easy for my aching back. And Larry Hall has a kitty pool with Walmart bags with potting soil in an inch of water. This will keep the ants out and allow me to grow a bunch of stuff without all the tilling and such.

Blooie, As always, wonderful and heartwarming story. What a wonderful tradition and I'm sure every time you see the Charlie Brown tree you think of mom and smile

Good job keeping her around for Christmas!

Tnt, love the tree! Yay! We bought a blow up Rudolf today. We had nothing for outside and my son is so happy.

Not the best picture, it's dark out.

Peachiegirl, I'm hungry now! Sounds amazing!

Thanks. My son was so happy. We have a DVD set with some of the older Christmas movies an he loves Rudolf, so he was really excited. I was really happy with it and it was already on sale, so that helped! Lol

I'm in a quandry about what to do to make my family healthier. They blew me out of the water with my kombucha and kefir. Will not drink either. Then they say they will NEVER eat the homegrown chicken I make so I'm stuck with starting a garden to get them healthy. They will eat the eggs, (if a ever start getting them again).

I am sorry to hear your family are being butt-heads about eating healthy. Since they are adults, then they should be given some responsibility for what they eat. I would cook the good stuff (homegrown) and let then know that is what I am making for supper. They can eat it or not. If they don't want to eat it, then they can get their own supper or go hungry. If they are like a lot of my family, they will eventually get tired of going hungry or cooking for themselves. Who knows, maybe one will find they like to cook and you will get a kitchen helper out of this.

My hubby is the same way about stuff, not really any rhyme or reason for some of his boycotts. For instance, I like to garden and one year I was looking through a seed catalog and they had a mushroom box - for growing button mushrooms. He said "absolutely not!". I wasn't really set on getting it, so I didn't; but some day soon I will grow my own mushrooms and home can or dehydrate the extras. I use a lot of mushrooms in my cooking. I am not sure how he will react to me making yogurt... we will see soon. lol! He knows I am not happy with the stuff I can get from the store here.

Yes, wyo, I think you should do it. I've been kicking around the idea myself. It's a good resource and is not exactly cheap in the stores either. Family will order in when I cook something they don't like. I accept it but don't like it. Come on..... There is just so much pizza in the world and I get tired of take out.

Both trees look good tnt. DH is off to Home Depot to replace an outdoor plug for the 2nd or 3rd year running... here is mine with the mini led.
So I know I'm suppose to be looing at your beautiful tree, but I'm stuck looking at your beautiful hardwood floors!

i know right?
those floors are beautiful.

topdyke, noticed you are in Magnolia. I used to live in Cypress. All my furnishings came from RnD Rustics there.

LOL I still only have lights on the tree. There is always something to replace.
