Wow! I absolutly love it! It's the tale of every young group of chickens! I loved
especially live the part about pooping on the melon. Sadly I don't think they ever grow out of it

.

I would love to hear more about your little flock! And once I manage to aquire Internet out here
in the middle of nowhere I will post pics of my pretty little babies!

It has been SO long since I posted. Lets just say I havent feel like it.
Many things have happened since my last post. Many MANY exciting things!
My babies are now over four months old. Their true colors have really come out. Little Pacobean molted her tail feathers and for a while she looked like a football with legs. Shes such a cutie but somehow she has become terrified of being held? I dont know it seemed to happen overnight. Meanwhile, none other than Big Girl has become my lap chicken. I kneel down, pat the ground and she hustles over. I hold her for a long time and she just purrs. She loves people and sometimes i think she gets picked on for it. She is Roos least favorite girl. She is picked on by the other hens. On several occasions she has roosted on the "Chicken Ark" because apparently there is not enough room on the roost inside. But I look inside and they are all clustered together towards the window side. There is still a couple feet of room on the other side. I wonder how their little minds think sometimes.
Big things have happened for Mister Roo, however. A couple weeks ago he began crowing! At first it was like a cat was being strangled in our back yard, but he worked on it and worked on it and finally came up with that cock-a-doodle-doo sound that we all love to hear! I am so proud of him!
He also is paying more attention to things other than himself. He is always watchful when him and his ladies are out grazing, and he is cautious when the dog or humans are around. However, he is now officially too dignified to be seen in the arms of me or any other person. He is no chick anymore...
He has alot more interest in members of the opposite sex.
He likes Little Girl for her personality, and big beautiful ear muffs.
He likes Pacobean for her lovely voice and pretty eyes.
He likes Domonique for her tolerance and good temper. He also is very attracted to stripes.
He likes Red for her beautiful coloring.
He likes Omelet for, you guessed it, her body.
He doesn't like Big Girl. The only attention he gives her is a good peck on the head when she gets close enough. I feel bad for her.

And I know for certain he is definitely no chick anymore after what I saw today! Today I witnessed two if my chickens... mating....
Thats right. Little Roo and Domonique lost their V-Cards this morning. I was shocked. Utterly bewildered. She has never just stood their for him before!
So yeah...

So me and my brother have placed our bets on whos gonna lay the first egg. He says Pacobean, Little girl and Omelet. I say Red Domonique and Big Girl. It just seems to me that Little Girl and Pacobean dont take their lives seriously enough. They still seem like little chickies to me.
Anyone else have a guess on who will be the winner?

Much love from the always aging Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco

Its good to be back

What kind of dog shampoo? I wanna give my chickies a bath

I used Dog Flea and Tick shampoo. It made her smell like citrus and it made her feathers shiny

Let me know how your chickens do with bathtime!

Its getting cold out here, and you can tell winters on its way. Every morning I go out and open the door so the Fuzzy-Butt Thundering Herd of Wisco can go out and thunder all day (and eat some corn), and they are hesitating when they step out. I have stuck my hand in that door to feel how warm it is and let me tell ya, its gotta be like 20 degrees hotter than the outside world. It must be like me waking up in the morning: the house seems freezing, under the covers its nice and freakin toasty! Its gonna be a loooong winter....

The good thing is... deer season is on its way! Our yard looks completely and utterly redneck this time of year: different kinds of shooting targets everywhere! I recently fell in love with shooting bow, and my dad and brother also do, so we have two foam deer in the yeard. one is missing and ear. One is missing a head. Both are covered in holes.
I was shooting bow today, and I heard the unmistakable cry of a hawk. I look up the hill and there is it is... big, biggest hawk I've ever seen. Guess where its looking? Down the hill towards a multicolored blob that is the Fuzzy- Butt Thundering Herd of Wisco. Now that got me more full of rage than I have been in a long time. I even considered pulling that bow string thingy back and launching it. If i had had a rock in my hand I would have been capable of throwing it that far. If I had had a gun, I would have took careful aim and pulled the trigger. I saw red. I chanelled all my anger into screaming and yelling at that stupid creature until it went away. But I know its gonna be back.
I told my parents about it at dinner. My mom got very angry. She LOVES birds of prey. She said I couldnt shoot it. I said if it kills any of my chickens Im gonna. She said if I do Ill have a big fine to pay (they are protected after all) But you see, people are illegal to shoot too, but if a person killed me, I bet she would do something violent to them too. SHe doesnt understand me at all. She thinks they are simply farm animals, but they are far more than that. They are my babies, 7 little bright spots in my life, and no hawk is going to take them away from me without suffering severely.

Plus, its not illegal unless you get caught.

The Fuzzy-Butt Thundering Herd of wisco has been getting into alot of trouble lately...
their poop is everywhere. On the lawn. On the porch. On the driveway. Everywhere you go, you see poo. I didnt think that they would poop this much! I dont know what to do about it...
They have also been expanding their boundaries. Three days ago I found them a quarter of the way down our halfmile driveway. They also explored the woods behind our guest house.
Two days ago they decided they were cows. They thundered right under the barbed wire fence and into our cow pasture! Then they grazed. Little Roo attempted a "Moo" but it came out as a squawk. I had to chase them back in, giving me many scratches.

Litte Roo and Domonique have been naughty. They do it all the time. They do it in the forest. They do it on the driveway. They do it in front of all the other girls. Roo likes domonique. She lets him do whatever he wants to her. I hope she doesnt end up bald...

In 4 days, the Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco will be a whole 5 months old! I am very happy and proud that they have made it this far, and that they are all so pretty! I took some pictures...

Two little members of the Fuzzy-Butt Thundering Herd of Wisco have greatly embarrassed themselves AND their extended family. They have also put a bad name on their already wimpy herd. I am ashamed...
Almost all of this month, we have had a group of thrity- forty something year old guys staying in the rental house. Every weekend they come p here, every sunday they go back to wherever they come from. This past saturday, Mr. Roo was in one of his moods. The herd was thundering about in the front yard, and they had once again made their way towards the rental house front porch. One of the guys was standing on the porch, talking on his cell phone and smoking a cigarette, staring at the chickens like he'd never seen such a creature before in his life.
I guess domonique got too close to roo. I guess Roo was horny like usual. Him and domonique had a lovey moment right in front of that man.
A look of shock crossed his face. He could have dropped his phone to the floor, he was so shocked. He just stood and watched them until they were done. Then he stood at stared at the same place for a little more. Then he walked inside.

This is according to my brother, who was outside at the time. I am kind of embarrased of my chickens right now.
