The Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco

I love this herd! And my brother would sooo do that to one of my pullets. Omelet sounds like my little Golden Buff, Poppy. She always runs around and freaks out when you try to pick her up, too!

Mind if I make a post like this for my flock? I'll give you credit.

waiting for more to come!

Today, the Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco thundered more than ever!
In the morning, they thundered all the way to their outside cage (with the help of me and my chicken herding stick). Then they thundered all around the kennel until I went crazy and let them out. Then they thundered all over, everywhere that they WERENT supposed to go! Then they were forced to thunder back to the kennell. Then it was time to go into the shelter of their coop. They were let out of the kennell, and they thundered away. They thundered across the back yard, down the driveway, across the basketball court, down the hill, and up the steps! Then they ate and drank until they were full. They had a great day.

Still no batteries for the camera. Hopefully tomarrow.

Today was sadly like any other day on the rambling prairies of the great state of Wisco. The rental house still has renters, so the thundering herd was forced to stick to thundering in the back yard, out of sight from the renters. They are a group of fun loving people who, as we discovered, enjoy late night partying!
And they arent leaving til Sunday! Hooray!
It rained for part of the day, so they were forced to take shelter under the porch. When the rain was done, they thundered around the house, up the stairs, and onto the front porch! My brother came back from a walk, entered the door and said "we have chickens on the porch again." Lol!
I looked outside and sure enough, there they were! I took pics before I kicked them off, but I dont feel like putting them up right now. (I am a lazy person, okay?)
So yeah, you people must wait. Sorry

Fuzzy butts say hello!

The Fuzzy Butt Thundering herd of Wisco has developed a new routine.
They thunder out the coop to the backyard. Then, when they get hungry/thirsty, they thunder back to the coop, eat their fill, take a nap, and thunder right back to the backyard. Verry slowly. The first time they did it, I went to the coop to check on them about 12:30. There was no sign of life in there! (except for those gosh darn flies, maybe, but thats not the point!) Like the obbsessive over protective paranoid chicken mommy that I am, I freaked out.
I raced all over my property (ok, not everywhere. I live on a freakin 100 acre farm.) I looked any where they could have gone, and I found them. They were taking a different route. Down below the "grainery" (AKA the chicken coop) My mom has cleared a place to plant a few blackberry bushes. There they were, walking the perimeter of the clearing. I herded them back tot he safety of the backyard. Now I feel better.
We have had the fun-loving renter people renting the rental house for three days now. It is getting quite old. They went canoeing today, so they were gone the whole day pretty much. Unfourtunately, I was not there to enjoy the peace. I had a softball tournament (we lost, by the way)
So I had to let go of my paranoia for several hours and let the chicks roam the yard alone!
I have little faith in Rex the Border Collie. Ever since the renters renting the rental house have came, he has spent every possible minute over there. He absalutely LOVES them. I think if gave him the opportunity to go home with them and be their dog, he would not hesitate. (Yesterday I happened to see one of the guys put a plate of left-overs on the ground in front of him. Just as I suspected!) So of course, he is not paying attention to the backyard. Ugh. I am a nervous wreck.

Roo has not learned how to get up the steps to the coop. I have to lift him up. He is so intelligent...

Much love from the fuzzy butts

It feels like I have not posted in forever, but it has only been a week. You see, I went on a lakeside vacation (and had a darn good time) from monday to friday. My father stayed home, so I had no need for a chicken sitter (though I question his chicken care judgement often). I got home late at night Friday, so I didnt get to spend any time with them. (they all survived a week with my dad

) Today, I got up early and we all left to spend the day with my grandparents at their house. Again, we got home late and no time was spent with my thundering herd. Tomarrow calls for some serious bonding time

On another note, here is some updates from the Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco:
Tension is high in the coop, because Little Roo has a new, unexpected enemy: none other than little domonique! (Ok really, someone needs to give me a name for her!) Thats right, she has gone on strike. Big Girl and Roo settled their dispute during my absence, and now my little striped showgirl has gone on strike. I'm strangely proud of her. She has one most of the few battles I have witnessed.
Speaking of Domonique, she is now an official entrant into my county fair this September! I am very excited and nervous but I have alot of hope, even though I shouldn't (she is hatchery quality, after all. And I have no clue what I'm doing.)
Little Girls head is bluer than ever, and it is not making her prettier. She is a combo of three Ameraucana recognized colors: white on her bottom, blue wheaten on top, and blue on the head. I just don't know what to make of her.
Little Red oddly reminds me of a cornish chicken, bringing up bad memories. We used to get around 25 cornish cross chicks every spring. We had the amish butcher them about 6 weeks later. In between that time they grew into fat lazy ugly stinky mean pigs. There is alot of difference between them and my little fuzzy butts. I try to keep in my mind that Red will be pretty when she grows up, but I've got a long wait til then.
Pacobean is still just ireesistable! I dont know what it is about her, but whenever you see her you just want to scoop her up and hug and kiss her. Such a darling. I sound like a crazy chicken lover. Oh wait, I am! Whoops.

Much love from the Fuzzy Butts. Still waiting on those names

Please??

Since Dominique is French name, I looked up some more French names that seem to fit a black-and-white-pullet.

Brigette
Cascade
Celine
Desiree
Gabrielle
Lisette
Juliette (or Juliet, though that isn't listed on the page I'm looking at)
Melodie
Renee

And Basil's a cute name, I named a friend's barred-rock mix pullet Basil

I know a person named Deserae so Desaree feels weird. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, so I have never introduced myself. My nickname is Aj. It is not my real name. I live in south west wisconsin near a town youve never heard of. My house is on a 110 acre property complete with two houses (one we rent out), a pasture, a garage, a verrry old chicken coop thingy, and some beautiful woods. I am a country girl at heart, while the rest of my family probably belong in the city. I love hunting, unlike most girls, especially my age. Please do not think I'm a cruel person. I'm only cruel to the people who deserve it (in my town, alot of people do.) I used to love nature, but then I entered middle school. Middle school is a new, cruel place for any kid. And it changes you. Now I am moving on to high school, which I imagine will change me even more, and not in a good way.
I love music. It makes a big part of my life and I could never live without it. Most of you would not appreciate my musical taste and choices. Anyhoo, here goes. Some of my favorite bands/singers are Seether (my all time favorite), Shinedown, Godsmack, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, etc. You have never known anyone with such a wide range of taste than me. My favorite song of all time is Gasolie by Seether. Seether rocks! They got me through hard times in my life and I can never stop listening to them. I love those guys

And now for my animals:
In the summertime, we rent out our pasture to a beef cattle farmer up the road. He puts about 7 cows, 7 calves, and a bull in there. There is always at least one truly evil animal in the mix. I never really visit the pasture much during the Summer.

I have a Border Collie mix named Rex. He is 6 years old and still full of life. He is hyperactive, loving, loyal, and very entertaining. I strongly believe in spaying/nuetering your animals (mostly dogs, i dont relly care for cats that much.) so he is nuetered (the myth that nuetered dogs are lazy is not true, by the way, and Mr. Rex has proven it well.) He is not the best protector of our land. The only animal he stands up to is the cows, and he has been nearly trempled on many occasions. And now either his sight, hearing and/or smell is going bad or he is just getting old, he cannot detect a rabbit 20 feet away. Thats right, there is a bunny who hangs out right under our front porch in the late afternoons, and Rex ussually dozes on the porch. Ther eis also another who enjoys eating my moms backyard flowers, and just yesterday, a small buck strolled through the backyard, not a care in the world, and was not discovered. This worries me, because there could be a rabid coon mauling my chickens in my own backyard and I get the feeling he wouldnt save them. Grr. Dont know what to do on that one...

I had a cat, Sunshine, and another cat, midnight. When I got them, I was about 4 years old. When we got rex, Midnight ran away, she just couldnt take the abuse. But Sunshine remained, because we have food, a sort-of-warm garage, and did I mention food? SUnshine couldn't catch a mouse to save his life!Midnight still visits every year. It is amazing what a survivor she is. Unfourtunately, she is about 9 or 10 years old now, and her luck has ran out. She came back one year with half of her front right leg left, the rest dangling by a thread. We have a theory she was caught in a trap, as we have trappers near by. She walks with a big limp. Besides that, half of her tail is missing (also caught in a trap?) And part of her ear is missing. You could spot her out of dozens of cats. SHe was once beautiful, but now she is skinny and her once shiny beautiful black fur has grown dull and thin. I ge tthe feeling she will be passing on soon.
As for Sunshine: Just last winter, we found out that little Sunshine has a tumor growing on his liver. We had found him severely dehydrated, incredibly skinny, and very weak, all of this happeneing over the course of about 2 days. About a week later, we decided it was his time to go. We took him to the vet and he put him down. Though it was hard, I'm glad I was there to see it. I said goodbye and held him in his final moments. You could feel his spirit leaving his body and you knew he was happier and all better now. It was a sort of beautiful. I love you honey, Rest In Peace

That is basically all of my animals, except for my new found obbsessions: my chickens!!!!

I dont think I could love them more. Since I got them, they have stolen my heart and I have become a kids nightmare: a paranoid, over protective, easily worried, over smothering mommy. I dont know if they can sense just how much I love them but I hope so. They fill up my dreary boring summer days. They are 7 bright spots in my life, and I treasure every second spent with them. My friends and family think I'm crazy. I hug and kiss them. I talk to them. I give them tons of treats. I absalutely spoil them. Once I kissed my little Domonique on top of her little head, and my mom saw. She said I have gone way to far, but I am not listening to her any time soon. I love my babies mor ethan anything! Thats why I like it here on BYC. I feel kind of normal. Is anyone else this obbsessed?

Thanks for reading, sorry for rambling on as I quite often do!

Much love, Aj
