The Girls and Pomegranates ?

I want to live somewhere where pomengrantes are so plentiful and mundane that letting them fall for the chickens is an option anyone would consider. Hmphf! Blasted cold, anyway!

Mine have a tree right next to their enclosure as well. They LOVE them.....but then again they seem to love any red fruits the most. It has not hurt them yet and I am pretty sure they would be dead by now if it was poisonous to them.

The fruits WILL stain light colored chickens though, so be aware of this if you are showing them or something.

The best place to feed them to a parrot is either outside in a travel cage or in the shower, with the shower curtain or door closed!

Otherwise, when they bite into them, the juice squirts all over. I cleaned plenty of red juice off my walls, before I learned my lesson. Oxiboost, Oxiclean or peroxide works on the stains, although you may not be able to use them on every surface.

Thank goodness chickens are happy to eat them outside!

I offered some pomegranate seeds to my big girls this morning. They weren't interested. Of course the seeds had been in the frig. for several days and my big girls are picky.

The crows however went to town on those seeds and that's fine by me. The crows chased off the hawk that killed one of my chickens. They can have all the pomegranate seeds they want for that.

Pomegranates! Duh. Never thought of those. They are expensive here, even in season. (What isn't expensive?) I have to see this though, so will buy a few.
The hawks are plentiful this year in Kansas. We have them aplenty and the girls go running for cover quite often. Keeps the roosters busy with their eye to the sky.

i've seen some go for 2 bucks a piece in areas farther away from the airports... but i see a couple places near here for a buck each... good stuff...
