The Girls Are On STRIKE!!!!!

The last couple of weeks we have been getting very sporadic egg laying from the girls. I have 12 hens about 14 months old. I usually get 10 to 11 eggs a day, but the last 2 weeks the most I have gotten is 5. Yesterday I got 1 and today I got 2 most of the eggs I have been getting is from the easter egger’s the last 2 days it has been just easter egger’s. I only have 4 of them and 8 plymouth white rocks. I hope they get what they want with a new contract BECAUSE I WANT THIS STRIKE OVER WITH !!!!!!!

Tuesday I found one of my Welsummer hens had gone broody and was sitting on eggs. I quickly replaced every white egg under her with brown eggs I'd gathered last week (some of these were welsummers too) My hens don't usually lay good when its hot .They've only laid 8 eggs in the past 2 days.

Well there is no hidden nest they can’t get out of their run. I walked the whole run and no hidden nest anywhere.

The heat will slow them down a bit, my ladies are slacking as well, and some of them are starting their molt

I still think there is one. Maybe I didn't understand your first post, but what I think you said, is all of a sudden, you had a dramatic drop in egg production. Only one hen didn't get the memo.

Not too long ago, I found a nest in an impossible place. Go down there with a cup a coffee in the morning and a book, and just hang out. I think you will find that someone is missing, or you will hear the egg song from a strange place.

If the decrease in egg production has been over time, if your flock is getting to be 2-3 years old or more, then that is probably the heat. It affects old birds more so. Within weeks, we will head to molt, and egg production naturally slows as the daylight becomes much shorter.
